I was having the same issue. Heres what I did:

1. Uninstalled itunes. (dont worry this does not delete your music or media)

2. restart

3. if install doesnt work, go to control panel > Uninstall program > left click on Apple Update Software so that it's highlighted > Click on Repair at the top.

4. Wait until the process is complete and then try reinstalling. Worked for me after that.

The old Apple Update Software must not be communicating very well with the new itunes software.

Good luck!

This should resolve the problem for iTunes and QuickTime.

1. Unzip the old QuickTimeInstaller.exe (ver.7.69.80.9) or the old

iTunesSetup.exe (ver.?). Do not use the new versions, as they

do not work. I have used the QT, as I do not have the iTunes one.

You will see four .msi files; the iTunes has six files.

QT:

• AppleApplicationSupport.msi

• AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi

• QuickTime.msi

• QuickTimeInstallerAdmin.msi

-----------------------------------------------

iTunes:

• AppleApplicationSupport.msi

• AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi

• AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi

• Bonjour.msi

• iTunes.msi

• SetupAdmin.msi

2. Double click on AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi.

3. The computer will load it in “C:\Program Files\ Apple Software

Update” folder.

4. Go to the above folder and double click SoftwareUpdate.exe.

5. The new window will show within few seconds all the programs that

Apple offers. Now, tick the box/es you need. I ticked the boxes for

QuickTime and iTunes.

6. Click Install.

Voila, just relax on your chair. Within few minutes, everything will be done

for you.

There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
