I have the same issue. tried to repair the installation and reinstall and still get the same issue. Event Viewer shows : Product: Apple Software Update -- The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2324. The arguments are: -1073741701, C:\Program Files (x86)\Apple Software Update\ScriptingObjectModel.dll,

I'm going to try uninstalling everything apple and restarting my computer and see if that helps.
I had a similar problem and after much trial and error, I found a process that worked for me. I hope this works for you guys and best of luck!!
I hope this works for you guys!! I just downloaded iTunes 10.5 and updated my phone to iOS 5.
I figured it out, at least on my Win7-64 machine. The update process itself is conflicting with the previous version. Through control panel/programs, I removed the "Apple Software Update" application. I had to repair it first, because attempting to uninstall it gave me the exact same error message that the 10.5 install did. Once this application was removed, the 10.5 install package ran perfectly.
Did everything above and it STILL won't work...
Same here ! Nothing worked,!:(
Thank you for posting this!! solved the issue for me
Same Here! omg :/
I received the exact same message have tried to uninstall all components but "Apple Mobile Device Support" won't uninstall. I have tried to repair and it still fails with a fatal error. When I attempt to install 10.5 I receive the above message and the install tries to reverse but does not do it successfully and iTunes will not start. I can't reinstall the old version because it find a newer version installed. Any ideas??
what a bunch of hocus pocus Apple needs to update these bugs pure and simple its Itunes not hardly worth the time or effort just to update phone sheez some of us would rather use our time for other things making a program to be the only exclusive way to load, update and maintain your phone needs to run flawlessly as there is no other way to update it Apple step up !
i have exactly the same problem... 😟 what to doooooo??
Been trying to sort this solid for three days now, still no iTunes ? Fails when I use iTunes installer or individual packages. Tried all the above procedures too..
I'm starting to think this might have something to do with windows ? I've always had problems with system update, that is failing also when I try to update, followed all the procedures for that too, to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated
