iTunes 10.5 does not load shared library files

Since today's update to iTunes 10.5 from 10.4.1. iTunes can no longer access the shared music library I have on my iomega NAS disk. It sees the disk and lists it as a shared library, but when I click on the library it goes into an endless loading cycle. In the past it might take a minute or so to load the library, but since the update, iTunes never actually does load it.

There is no error message, not even an operation time-out. I can't see anything rrelevant in the console. It just goes on for ever trying to load the shared library.

It was loading the shsred library just fine until this evening when the update downloaded.

Any ideas?

I've had the same problem too with Acer Aspire Server running WHS 2003. Downloaded iTunes 10.1.5.42 for Windows and the latest iTunes for my Macs, plus made sure WHS is up-to-date. The WHS library icon shows, but when I click on it, I simply get "loading" and that white wheel grinding ad infinitum.

Truthfully I have little need for my server library now that Itunes Match is working, but it's annoying as sin. I'm going to turn off iTunes Server until I see that everyone in this thread has been satisfied -- it's just wasting CPU cycles and power as is.

After researching this topic daily for two weeks and hours on the phone with tech people. It is definately Apples problem. I simply dropped the thought of retrieving my 8,000 music files from the NAS drive and paid $24.00 for a year suscription of Itunes Match. The time I spent on this topic is worth more. Now I get my Itunes songs on my Iphone, Itouch and any other computer with Itunes, all under the comfort of Apple.

hi,

im facing same problems with my winxp server running firefly and mac client running snow leopard and 10.5.1 itunes. so if i understand correctly, the solution is here, but for linux servers. giving the fact firefly has source files, implementing the patch deledrius was kind enough to share it here with us and compiling it for windows xp would solve miseries 🙂 for us running it under winxp.

so, any c/c++ ninjas hanging here willing to cope with the problem? 😉

The patch, while formatted for Ubuntu, is not specifically for linux servers; it is for Firefly Media Server (mt-daapd) itself and should work against any build of the svn-1696 version (in theory, anyway). At the very least, the code it affects can be adapted and should solve the problem for any version of the software afflicted by iTunes requiring that field in the server response which causes iTunes to sit indefinitely spinning at the loading stage. Any other problem is probably the result of some other defect or bug.

Is there no way to PM people on this forum? *sigh* Anyway...

Are you using a prebuilt binary, or did you compile the Windows version yourself? If you're compiling it yourself, you can make the changes in the patch file by hand (there aren't a lot of changes necessary) and then recompile. The patch file simply lists which lines have changed in which files, and with what new contents they have been replaced.

im using prebuilt binary, because i dont know a thing about compiling programs on any OS.

frankly, the thing im looking for is someone kind enough to post patched version of firefly_1696.exe (prebuilt binary so i could just uninstall firefly i have and install patched version) for windows xp 32-bit or guide how to do it myself in no more than 10 steps because i don't have the nerves nor the time to play with this issue too much.

it is much simpler to me just to install itunes on win server and have the functionality i need.
