iTunes 10.5 does not load shared library files

Since today's update to iTunes 10.5 from 10.4.1. iTunes can no longer access the shared music library I have on my iomega NAS disk. It sees the disk and lists it as a shared library, but when I click on the library it goes into an endless loading cycle. In the past it might take a minute or so to load the library, but since the update, iTunes never actually does load it.

There is no error message, not even an operation time-out. I can't see anything rrelevant in the console. It just goes on for ever trying to load the shared library.

It was loading the shsred library just fine until this evening when the update downloaded.

Any ideas?

Agreed, iTunes 10.5.1 update did NOT fix the problem for my HP MediaSmart (WHS v1).

Here are my test machines:

17" MacBook Pro running Lion with iTunes 10.5.1 ~ Does NOT work.

13" MacBook running Snow Leopard with iunes 10.4.1 ~ Works perfectly.

Dell Laptop running 32bit Win 7 and iTunes 10.5.1 ~ Does NOT work.

Gateway Netbook running 64bit Win7 and iTunes 10.4.1 ~ Works perfectly.

Clearly the issues is with iTunes 10.5(x) as 10.4(x) works perfectly on both OS/X and Win7 while 10.5 does not, even after the .1 patch.

In my configuration I have mapped the Music share on the WHS to iTunes on the MacBook Pro whcih is where I "manage" everything from. The other 3 iTunes installations don't have their own libraries at all, they have only been used to stream off the WHS iTunes share.

I was seriously considering iTunes Match and was waiting for the 10.5.1 patch to fix this problem as they have done in the past when they broke ths same functionality. I'm not holding my breath, but I have decided to hold off any further considertion of iTunes Match to see if Apple is going to handle this satisfactorily or not.

In the mean time I got a Google Music account which easily uploaded my entire iTunes library (though it did take 2 days to do so) and at the cost of FREE is quite a bit cheaper than iTunes Match anyway. Using Google Music I can stream my library to pretty much anything that has a web browser. It even works in the background on my iPad. With this, I'm not even sure I care aboout the iTunes server any longer. Oloy real drawback is that Google Music requires Internet while the iTunes server could stream on my local LAN even if the Internet was down. Might also be a concern if you don't have unlimited bandwidth.

I've got the same problem too;

Win 7

Sharecenter Pulse DNS-320 NAS

It was working with an earlier version of itunes (can't remember the version - a couple of months ago) but the latest 10.5.1.42 and the previous version (10.4?) don't work for me. A shared library on another mac on the network works fine but the NAS just gives the spinning circle

No sign of a fix from D-Link either. It's been a couple of months now since this worked, I'm thinking of moving to XBMC for the music & media side of things and just using itunes to sync apps & photos...

any ideas?!

I'm not too sure what I'm doing here but I've figured out the following:

Download patch text.

http://freenas.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/freenas/legacy/build/ports/firefly/fil es/patch-src_plugins_out-daap.c?view=markup&pathrev=8537

Saved into:

/mnt/System/Patches/iTunes10_5.txt

ssh'd into server using root.

run patch command:

patch </mnt/System/Patches/iTunes10_5.txt

Info returned:

Hmm... Looks like a unified diff to me...

The text leading up to this was:

--------------------------

|# The original patch is 21_itunes10.5.dpatch by <deledrius@gmail.com>

|--- src/plugins/out-daap.c.orig 2007-10-14 07:10:06.000000000 +0900

|+++ src/plugins/out-daap.c 2011-10-30 19:53:38.000000000 +0900

--------------------------

File to patch:

Does anyone know which file I need to patch? I'm going to keep looking.

I've just tried the obvious... src/plugins/out-daap.c.orig

but no luck

Okay, I've looked through my FreeNAS system folders and found:

usr/local/share/mt-daapd/

I'm going to look around further.
