Alright people after hours upon hours of trial and error I finally was able to install the new iTunes and update my iPhone... I wrote down all my steps which worked for me, so I hope they work for you!! Good Luck!!!

  1. Be Patience!!!!!!!
  2. Unplug all AppleDevices from your USB ports or any other ports
  3. Restart your computer
  4. Open up Control Panel> Programs > Uninstall Programs
  5. Click the “Publisher”to list the programs by publisher
  6. Uninstall iTunes and Restart the computer
  7. Repeat steps 4-5 and uninstall all programs by the publisher Apple Inc. EXCEPT Apple Software Update
  8. Upon uninstalling all programs by Apple Inc. EXCEPT Apple Software Update, restart your computer
  9. Delete all these folders:
    1. C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\
    2. C:\Windows\SysWOW64\QuickTime
    3. C:\Windows\SysWOW64\QuickTimeVR
    4. C:\Program Files (x86)\Bonjour
    5. C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\
    6. C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
  10. Go back to the Control Panel and repair Apple Software Update
  11. Restart the computer
  12. Go back to the Control Panel and uninstall Apple Software Update
  13. Remove all Apple Inc. entries from your registry (For this step I would recommend using CCleaner or a program like it if you are not familiar with the RegEdit command… I personally used CCleaner which can be downloaded for free from www.download.com)
  14. Once you have removed all registry entries from Apple Inc. restart your computer.
  15. Do one more check to ensure that all registry errors and Apple Inc. entries are removed (which include iTunes, Bonjour, QuickTime, etc)
  16. Do another quick check to make sure all Apple Inc. programs are uninstalled from the control panel, all the folders are deleted from Step 9 and the registry is clean.
  17. One more restart and then download iTunes and the installation should go through flawlessly

These step worked for me and I hope they work for you, best of luck!!!

This is the message. It starts near the end of "copying files'. most times it rolls back and tries again after you hot OK. then a message comes up, 'instalation interupted". sometimes even with the original error message it lets u download "successfully' only to then give an error message that support is missing for each element of itunes. I'm done for now!

thanks!

I have tried every suggestion that has been made. I have 2 years worth of work in my computer and I am not going to go through re installing windows. When I got my new Apple phone I was told it was a simple matter to upgrade to 10.5. But I cannot do it I get teh error.

I tunes 10.5 will not install, and Apple have done nothing about it. I am very upset and I am taking my Apple 4 back to the store and getting my money back I have one month to do it and I am going to take it back and get my old blackberry back on line.

Apple obviosly dont care or they would have come out with something or said they are coming out with a patch of some kind to overcome this problem that a lot of people have.

I don't myself consider installing Windows - on another hard drive or partition - all that "drastic" but rather a good way to have a test OS, a clean install to compare against, and while configuring and reinstalling apps and updates can take a day plus:

I wasted DAYS on iTunes and iPod + iOS and still finding new bugs or tripups. A test system lets me learn on one and only then risk my 'work' system.

Gates was a programmer. I trust Windows 7 RC and the new Dev Preview 8 more than I do with anyone else's "dot zero" and over the years have been forced to see that waiting up to a year before jumping on any new OS release from Apple is prudent. But it took me 15 yrs to acknowledge. Whether it was a 6.0.7 lesson, or 7.0 or anyother .0

They could turn off the spigget and not offer iOS 5.0. Pushing out iCloud, Lion 10.7.2, require 10.5.0, any even best planned tested and thought out rollout will stumble. Why all at once? AND of course new iPhone.

Sensible if you are a die-hard Windows fan. As Apple said in their famous ad, "Here's to the crazy ones . . . because they change things". Apple introduced several packages all at once because they all work together. Apple sold 4 million iPhone 4s phones in the inital 3-day weekend. Compare that to the dozen or so people in this thread and you'll realize that the current bug in the iTunes upgrade package is not even noteworthy.

Compared to the software fiasco called Windows which has brought so little innovation and so many problems after it's inital release, Apple software works beautifully. Windows OS is so full of holes that hackers regularly trample its security measures. Is it any wonder that the market capitalization of Apple has now surpassed Microsoft?

Apple innovation has improved our enjoyment of music and film, and rewritten the way retail is supposed to be done. On top of that, they gave us a mobile phone that ties all of it together. Remember Motorola and Nokia, the companies that introduced model after model of cell phones that basically all did the same thing? Where are they now? Let's get real and recognize that this problem may in fact be cause by a defect in Windows.

But if so many people are experiencing the same issue how can all of our windows be faulty in a same way. We all install so many other softwares too without any problem. How come???

If apple developed a software for windows environment it is apple's responsibility to develop properly... They should have considered this worstcase scenario during testing... Why should we suffer as end users??? Have we all not paid enough money to both Microsoft and apple for their innovations and brilliance. We seriously do not need to run after apple and Microsoft to help us rather they should be concerned about so many lawsuits against them. And we don't really care whose fault is it coz I am sure layers will take are of that.

Hi dominickfromnorthport

With all respect ;-)

Apple computers are also vulnerabel when it comes to virus.

At least in Denmark I have heard that Mac computers more often have hardware crashes

and that Apple support is slow and bad.

As a former IT administrator I have had lots of isses when Mac clients wanted to ret acces to internet, network, printers, VPN etc.

Of something is not working on a windowsbased PC you usually are abl to do something about it. If you har issues with your Mac - and bellieve me you can - you can't do much about it because everything is hidden under the smashing GUI. i agree Apple has done a lot more for developing whole med way of thinking communication and connecting conceptsinto a smart way and that Microsoft is sometimes looking like the Big bad guy. But MS has made Big improvents with Windows 7 and they still dominates the market.

iTunes is such a bad software. It is slow, non-logical and wants to take control in an almost Microsoft-like way ;-) The same goes for QuickTime wich allways makes a Windows pc run slower and makes issues with anmodet any thirdparty video software like Adobe premiere Pro, other mediaplayers etc. It's juni software on a Windows based machine.

Maybe Apple think they are teasing Microsoft and just dó not Want to do anything about it. But the truth is they are pushing away their end-users and future customers when they apparently are not doing anything to solve this issue.

Apple have to make their basic software like iTunes and QuickTime run flawless on any MS based pc ud they Want to keep their Windows customers - of wich there must be Quite a few.

What is nonsense but yet so typical of a blowhard is to assign blame for a problem before you even know what's causing it. With 4 million plus iPhones sold in the last couple of weeks and no major news stories about incompatibility, doesn't it seem likely that most Windows users had no problem going to 10.5? But why let logic get in the way when flapping your gums is so much easier.

Oct 30, 2011 4:36 AM in response to nasirkhan

nasirkhan, your post did not offend me and if you look at the top of the reply you will see in parathesis that my reply was not directed to you (in response to ---). And be advised, as I previously posted in three messages, that Apple is very aware of this problem and working to resolve it. In fact, I was told that they are working together wil Microsoft. As I also stated and as a wee bit of logic will confirm, Apple has much to gain by having Windows users buy iPhones and use their software.

Oct 30, 2011 4:35 AM in response to chrismkuk

Not strange at all, Chrismkuk since there is nothing sensible about saying that "They don't want you to upgrade to 10.5." These kinds of conspiracy theories just confuse the issue and make people angry. As far as making a contribution, if you read my prior posts you will see that I spent two days and many hours on the phone with Apple so they could capture the sequence of events taking place when the 10.5 upgrade fails. I think that brings more value to the community than applauding an "us against them" mentality.
