win7 x64 can't install iTunes 10.5
Windows 7
nasirkhan, your post did not offend me and if you look at the top of the reply you will see in parathesis that my reply was not directed to you (in response to ---). And be advised, as I previously posted in three messages, that Apple is very aware of this problem and working to resolve it. In fact, I was told that they are working together wil Microsoft. As I also stated and as a wee bit of logic will confirm, Apple has much to gain by having Windows users buy iPhones and use their software.
Not strange at all, Chrismkuk since there is nothing sensible about saying that "They don't want you to upgrade to 10.5." These kinds of conspiracy theories just confuse the issue and make people angry. As far as making a contribution, if you read my prior posts you will see that I spent two days and many hours on the phone with Apple so they could capture the sequence of events taking place when the 10.5 upgrade fails. I think that brings more value to the community than applauding an "us against them" mentality.
I'll concede your point re your contribution but (and perhaps I'm missing the point here) where on earth does he say "They don't want you to upgrade to 10.5." ?
Speaking as a systems administrator for a small publishing company with 20 years experience of both Microsoft and Apple network integration his post has good advice and raises some valid points.
His original post said "They apparently do not want you to upgrade" and he has since edited it along with astericks to say "They apparently *do* want you to upgrade." His correction now make his comments sensible.
Priceless!
Hence my confusion at your response :-)
Ok guys after weeks of trying everything that is been discussed I could not get ITune 10.5 installed, Yesterday I finally decided to slide in Win7 64 bit disk to be resinstalled, it took almost a day to reinstalling everything back.
Finally Itune 10.5 works like a magic, like nothing happended.
I had a problem with installation of Nero9 too, it would not just install, yesterday I though to try it again and it too installed without any issue.
On positive note: I have a clean OS for now and everything seems to be working well, I hope it stays that way.
GUYS IF YOU HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING AND NOTHING HAS WORKED FOR YOU, THEN RE-INSTALLING WINDOWS SEEM TO BE ONLY OPTION, SO HAVE A STRONG HEART AND GO FOR IT.🙂
A message to Apple: FIX IT ASAP! Even if it is not entirely Your fault, there is considerably more iOS device owners than of an Apple computer, making a good Windows supporta necessity, also since this is no minor bug, but a huge PR issue and a potential disaster. Users do not want find out by trial, that even re-installig the whole Windows to get rid of the bug - may not have any guaranteed outcome....
I have faced the same problem of not able to install itunes 10.5 on my win 7 x64 ultimate sp 1 with all latest updates.
But the following article solved my problem.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Try it. You will be able to install itunes on a win x64 machine. Don't forget to restart your pc after uninstalling old itune.
I had a similar issue and finally had luck using the methods at this location:
Apple really needs to step it up. I've paid a total of $700 on iPods over the years, and I'm pretty sure that I should be able to get FREE customer support when it's YOUR program that's messing it up. My other iPhone crashed, got a cheap phone and an iPod Touch, and now the iPod's broken... And in both of these cases Apple has not been cooperative with their consumer. I'm going to wait until this is fixed though...
The "repair and uninstall updater" solution does not work. Neither does the "create a new user" solution, nor does the "uninstall all apple programs first" solution. Apple obviously knows there's an issue or they wouldn't leave the 10.4.1 64-bit installer up. I'm not prepared to reinstall my operating system - iTunes has been lousy on windows for several iterations and there is not a single solution from Apple. I'm going to see the so-called genius at my not so local Apple store (not holding my breath).
There seem to be many conversations all with the same problems and I have tried all the suggestions withour success. The problem seems to be in Apple Application Support and specifically in copying th efile SQLite3.dll to the common files folder. Any ideas how to fix this?
Apple seems to be ignoring this. It's nearly a month since your post. I just got an iphone, so tried updating iTunes from 10.4 (which initially was a huge update problem) to 10.5, which simply doesn't want to install correctly. I've got the 64 bit download version, but when I plug in my phone it says I need to uninstall and upgrade to the 64 bit version! So I can't get Apple software to talk to an Apple phone .... nice ..... :-(
After I posted this I went to the apple store and that was not helpful as they only can fix apple software on apples. then spent 2 hours on the phone with apple care and have emailed them my logs so the jury is still out. the problem is in the apple software support program. DO NOT uninstall all apple software as you will not be able to reinstall anything in my experience. This issue is not related to 64 vs 32 bit machines as I have seen the same error on the community in a variety of machines and systems Xp/vista/windows 7. My hunch is it is a registry problem but the registry cleaner CClean didn't fix it and neither did fix from Microsoft. My pc has all the windows updates.
He guys I just fixed mine today and this is how I did it.
1. Uninstalled itunes. (dont worry this does not delete your music or media)
2. Restart
3. If install doesnt work, go to control panel > Uninstall program > left click on Apple Update Software so that it's highlighted > Click on Repair at the top.
4. Wait until the process is complete and then try reinstalling. Worked for me after that.Windows 7
