Hi Cliffhaze,

Do you have all the latest updates installed? As well as C++2005 ATL Security update? This is a required dependency for iTunes and can be found here http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=14431

Hope this works for you,

Many thanks,

Kieren

Note: Sorry if this has already been suggested, I didn't realised there were already multiple pages on this thread until afterwards.

Hi Kieren,

I didn't have the C++ update so I used the link you provided and did that. I went through the whole uninstall/clean-up process Apple recommends and started from scratch again but no luck. Same message and it packs itself back away.

I do appreciate your help though. I may just have to forget itunes on this machine :-(

Thanks again.

Hey,

I've been experiencing the same problem since I've got my fresh Windows 7 x64. As iTunes 10.5 was working with the previous Win7 x64 installation I didn't want to give up too early. I've tried literally everything, nothing helped. No idea why, after cleaning all of the apple post-installation trash and starting a new installation I've tried changing the destination folder from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes

to:

C:\Program Files\iTunes

AND IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM! iTunes installed without errors and now I'm a glad 10.5 user.

Just in case this should help you, give it a try!

Greetings 🙂

I too had problems, and I used a combination of advice I found here to get it to work. Thanks to everyone who posted updates. Whew! (That was a wasted two hours of my time.)

I have Windows 7 64 bit, downloaded iTunes 10.7

Step 1: Download the latest iTunes. I ended up using http://www.techspot.com instead of Apple.com. Why? For some reason, the install popup worked when I downloaded from them but not from Apple.

Initially, I couldn't get the installer popup to show so I took Apple's advice and modified my browser (under 'tools') to allow popups. That didn't work for me, but it might for you. If you modify your browser and you still can't get the popup, try rebooting

Step 2: Run the iTunes install. If you get the error 'windows installer pack' issues, click OK. This will undo the install, sort of.

Step 3: Go to your Control panel > Programs > Unistall a Program. Find the downloads by Apple Inc., select Apple Software Update and then REPAIR. (DO NOT UNINSTALL IT)

Step 4: Next, unistall the remaining Apple Inc. downloads. The only one you should have left is Apple Software Update. REBOOT

Step 5: Run the iTunes installer again (should still be in your downloads folder from earlier). HOWEVER, Uncheck all of the options listed AND then change the file path

from:

C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes

to:

C:\Program Files\iTunes

Step 6: Knock on wood. Seriously, this is all I had to do and it FINALLY worked. I think the main problem was solved in step 3, so you might be able to skip the rest of the steps.

Hey geniuses, thanks to one of you, finally installed iTunes 10.5 and updated iPhone 4 to IOS 5.

Took me nearly 5 minutes for these. No need to uninstall anything or restart PC. (Wins 7 64bit)

Method:

1. Go to control panel.
2. Search "Apple".
3. Repair everything inside that list.
4. Go download iTunes 10.5 at http://www.apple.com/itunes/
5. Install it and wait for the magic to happen/

PS: It'll only remove every files of the previous iTune 10.4.1 but it's during the installing. After that, launch you iTunes 10.5 and everything are there. Need no rebooting or restart your computer after everything above. (Wins 7 64bit) Good luc

Excellent Kelvin Fong. Thank you very much. Saved me from the stupid error.

Recently, I replace my old PC with a new one with Win 8.

Tried to install iTunes for my iPhone 4S and the problem of this thread hits me so I come to this thread.

I am so surprising to find that this issue seems to go on for a very long time and APPLE engineers have not resolved this issue and I still need to suffer from it.

OK, I have been stuck for two days and none of the solutions in this thread works for me.

(I have tried several solutions on this threads, Jesus!)

I agree with the "THEJZB".

Of course, I can reinstalled WIN 8 to give it a try but I have installed and setup so many software packages, it would take at least whole day to do that.

Can APPLE makes our life simple and easier?

To those of you who wants to fix the "Error occured during installation before Itunes could be configured"

THIS IS THE FIX

1. Right Click 'Computer' and Select Properties.

2. On the left panel there's this 'Advance System Settings'. Click It

3. Sytem Properties will pop-op.

4. In the advance tab. On the lower right there's this 'environment variables' Click it.

5. Another thing will pop-up. Edit the 'TEMP' and 'TMP' Variables. and make them 'TEMP1' and 'TMP1'.

CliCK OK THE INSTALL.
