win7 x64 can't install iTunes 10.5
Win7 x64 and havent updated the windows 7 service pack 1
I tried to find the Microsoft.VC80.CRT and uninstall the win32 version, but still iTunes won't allow me to install.
Windows 7
Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I'm having the same problem too, on Vista 32 bit.
Same issue here! Win 7 64bit sp1.......tried everything! I just want to update my phone!
I have the same issue, Windows Vista 64 bit, but in my case it also says that apple mobile device is not working. Tried everything, install, unistall, delete temps, install again, and it does not work, help please!!
I'm having the exact same problem and in some weird way, I'm glad it's not just be but this is frustrating all the same. I was kind of excited about installing iOS5 today but I can't get iTunes 10.5 installed on my Windows 7-64Bit machine.
Wow! This is frustrating. Forgot to mention that I have an Alienware MX11 (also from Dell) running Windows 7, 64 Home Premium. I have all of my Windows updates. I also completely removed iTunes 10.4 and Quicktime.
Removed temp files and checked to be sure there are no services running that may cause a conflict.
I have an ipad 2 and up until the iTunes 10.5 update everything has worked really well. But since I've tried to update to v.10.5 today, nothing works. I run Win7 Ultimate, 64 bit. I've uninstalled and re-installed several times. Cleaned my registry, etc... Haven't found a lead in the web that can solve this problem, but it seems a pile of people are in the same boat. Anyone found a solution to this yet?

Out of curiosity, how many of us are using a Dell device?
I have a Dell XPS.
I´m not using DELL.
Dell XPS 64-bit Windows 7 Home.
Maybe they are punishing PC users... Just like the virus they injected into the Blackberry network! 😝
I'm kididng Apple. Don't hurt me.
Not sure if it's the same issue, whenever i try to install the itunes 10.5, i was told the is a problem with installer package, a program required to install could not be run. I just want to get my phone update to iOS 5.
I've done it! I had this exact same issue but have found a way to get it working. I'm running Windows 7 64-Bit on an HP.
First, I uninstalled everything according to these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Second, I restarted my PC. Then went to http://www.apple.com/itunes/ and downloaded the 64-Bit version. During install, the same error documented in this forum will pop up. Click OK, and it will uninstall the Apple Mobile Device Software, then continue on installing iTunes 10.5.
Third, once the installer has run it's course, I open the Apple Software Update program. Immediately click cancel, then go to Tools >> Open Downloaded Updates Folder.
Fourth, double-click the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64 exe, and let it run it's course. Once again, you will receive the error, but DO NOT click OK. Just leave it be.
Fifth, open up iTunes, plug in your iPad, iPhone, or whatever and reap the benefits of iOS 5!!
I did this and have updated my iPad 2. I'm now waiting as my apps are restored, but everything seems to have worked fine. However, I still haven't closed the error box.
Just a note, during the install of the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64 exe, it creates two folders on your C drive.
One is located in C >> Program Files >> Common Files >> Apple >> Mobile Device Support
The second is located in C >> Program Files (x86) >> Common Files >> Apple >> Mobile Device Support
Once you click OK on the error screen, these folders will automatically delete themselves. I have copied and pasted them on my desktop, in hopes that when I click OK and these folders are deleted, I'll just replace them with the copied folders and all will be good until Apple comes out with a proper fix. Good luck to everyone!
Update: Everything worked great. I'm now running iOS 5 on my iPad 2. I actually chose to Ctrl + Alt + Delete and start the Task Manager. I then just ended the task of the Apple Mobile Device Support installation. All folders and files are still intact, and everything seems to be working.
As I said before, this should work until Apple comes out with a proper fix.
The the same problem!
Apple needs to do something instead of leaving us looking for such 'clever' solutions...
