Always glad to be of help ;)

However, iTunes installs some daemon now - need to find out what it does, and if it's really needed. Maybe that thing is related to the error. The netsh windsock reset deactivates LSPs that have been installed by other software, which causes that software stop working.

Some networking expert would be needed to analyze the function of thä deacon and the REAL cause of the problem.

It can't be right that iTunes suddenly requires a "blank" system with no third party LSPs installed to work correctly.

It obviously misses to hook itself in into the chain properly.

It must be the new iCloud stuff they introduced.

If they don't come up with a fix pretty soon I will get myself another appointment at the Genius Bar, have them revert my phone to iOS4 and I will go bak to iTunes 10.4.1 -- with that I can

Be sure everything works as before.

I'm really p*ssed meanwhile!!

Several days and nights of tracking down the problem is too much.

I had that funny display too, but not at the moment.

When Safari is installed, try clearing the browser cache.

A reboot after the winsock reset is required!

On my system, the problem after resetting the winsock to standard is that my ISP's connection / volume logging tool won't work anymore. It is the kicked out of the chain. When it is installed again, it works properly, but the iTunes store is broken again.

So it's clearly obvious that Apple iTunes DOES NOT CORRECTLY install itself / use the Winsock LSPs.

They should finally hire some developer with a clue about Windows and about networking.

Just checked the "? / Help" in iTunes 10.5 with this result:

Not Found

The requested URL /itunes/win/10.5/ was not found on this server.

Apache/2.2.3 (Oracle) Server at help.apple.com Port 80
Same when I manoever there with the browser - Select product, iTunes, Win, v10, click iTunes Help in the list below it -> see above.
So the help is being pulled from the web, and not in a help file on the disk.

Another annoying thing:

When in iTunes settings, on the tab "devices", the checkbox "prevent automatic syncing" is off, then

you can activate or deactivate the checkbox "open iTunes when this device is connected" on the overview tab when your iPhone is selected in the left pane of iTunes.

What I always had is the checkbox activated there (open iTunes), but I had checked "avoid automatic syncing" in the settings.

When I now check "avoid automatic syncing", then the theckbox to open iTunes automatically when the device gets connected is not only greyed/unselectable - moreover, the checkbox is then always OFF.

I am pretty sure that before this wasn't the case - iTunes would always come up, but not automatically start syncing (which is important, as there might be something you want to change BEFORE some app gets overwritten or similar).

I really begin to HATE that software.

This won't apply to most people, but most of my problem was solved by a brand new update for CovenantEyes. I am also working with 2nd-level support. Edward identified a setting in IE9 that I needed to change:
tools->internet options->advanced
uncheck "Check for server certificate revocation"

Now I can reach the iTunes Store, but the help window gives a new error:
"Not Found
The requested URL /itunes/win/10.5/ was not found on this server.
Apache/2.2.3 (Oracle) Server at help.apple.com Port 80"

Any ideas out there on this one?
