Didn't want to, but I did what Favot suggested (easy for me since I manage my own domain) and it worked. However, it's totally ridiculous (and incompetent) that this issue has not been resolved by Apple. It's not hard to tell a person that the email address is associated with multiple IDs and what they can do about it. Instead, Apple, in its great wisdom and infallibility has deemed that the appropriate response is no response at all. No warning, no hint, no error, nothing. It just doesn't work. I call that arrogance and incompetence. Apple's attitude is "who cares."

Tried Favot's solution; I am now able to access iCloud. However, when I try to update my Apps, the Apple Store says that I didn't buy them, so I am not authorized to update. Apparently, the new Apple ID over-writes the transaction history, so Apple thinks that I have somehow pirated my Apps, and will not allow me to update.

Does anyone out there have any ideas how to fix this? I am about to go to Android!

I was able to update apps and everything seems to be working well. But the first time I tried, the phone was still using the old email address, not the new one I created, so I did sync with the phone (wirelessly, I believe, since I had gotten that working, too) and then tried again and then the phone had the new Apple ID and I used my new PW and since then I've updated Apps a few times.

Apple understands interfaces, but not always customer service and problem (I won't say crisis) management. They continue to be silent on the upgrade issues, AFAICT. One person mentioned going to the Genius Bar, which is not a great option for me due to distance. I'd hate to have to resort to that, but I know I'd give them an earful.

I had the same problem. After much frustration, I found that I had two other, older Apple IDs (not email addresses) that used the the same email address as the one I was trying to create/convert my Apple ID to. Click on the link "Find Out" on the My Apple ID page to see if you have other Apple IDs associated with a particular email address. You need to log in to manage each unused Apple ID and change the associated email to something else; don't worry about verification. You can then sucessfully create and verify your desired email address as a new Apple ID and use it for iCloud, App Store . . .

Check your Spam/Junk Mail Folder.

After 2 days and several requests for a Verification Email I checked my Junk mail file and realized all of the Verficiation emails had been going there. After clicking one of those links I was verfied and things worked fine including updating Apps. (I did change the password for my Apple ID thinking that might be the issue as they now require an 8 character ID instead of the precious 6 digit ID.)

You rock! It worked. I found I had my daughters email address as my second. We were trying to verify her email address. As soon as I deleted it from my account, her phone lit up with verification emails! What had gone wrong was I synced (sp) her iphone to my itunes account when I got it. No idea it would create such a mess. Thanks again Favot

I also tried this a week ago and found 2 associated email addresses but I must have more cuz its still not working. You, unfortunately, have to type in the associated email addresses and I can't think of any other addresses I may have used over the past 10 yrs. Today I am not able to update my apps at add apps as it says I my ID has not been verified. It has worked fine up until today. Also, every time you check for associated addresses, you have to change your password to something you've never used before. I am running out of passwords that I will be able to remember. Hope someone comes up with a viable solution soon as I really need to keep my apps up to date.

Recently with upgrade to OS 5 and registering for iClould when trying to go to iTunes store I was unable to access and asked for verification request. As I previously had set up separate iChat/AppleID account with the same primary email address I was unable to get another verification email sent for iTunes store Apple ID.

Work round involved going to http://appleid.apple.com

Manage account of one Apple ID (the one not used for iTunes account) and change primary email address, this will need to be verified.

Then going to iTunes store it will ask for verification of the other Apple ID account . Pop up will then enable you to send verification email, previously greyed out. When email received verification complete, access to iTunes store returns to normal.

Hey I was having the same issue. My old apple ID wasnt associated with anything and I was stuck. So I called apple support. They told me that everything I got from my old apple ID wouldnt transfer over to my new one and the only way I could update anything is to repurchase everything again using my new one (which I wasn't about to do seeing that I had spend thousands over the course of give or take 7 years.) So I asked how in the **** can I get my old id verified. She basically said that the old ID is just that, it's an ID. If I can login to my account settings then it's active and all I had to do is change the primary address linked to it. So I logged into appleid.apple.com, clicked manage account, signed in, below where it says apple id you should see Pimary Address. Hit edit on the other side of that and change the email to an active email. Once you do that (from your computer I might add) it should say verified underneath and then presto. Your Id should be up and running again. I can't tell you how relieved I was knowing it was that simple. Hope this helps! Good luck you guys!

I tried the 'Find Out' solution that has been posted a couple of times and this looks to have worked (said I was verified) - however it made me change my password - went back to itunes and tried everything with new password and it refused that and now locked the d@mned account!

I love my ipod touch for music, but given experiences of the last 2 weeks I will never be getting an iphone! the software update has been a joke - you would think it was a priorty to make everything work together - even if just for the case of allowing consumer to spend money in the itunes store!!

Idoits!

I finally emailed app store support an they checked into the problem and said they would verify the account for me. I got an email back saying they took care of it and I should now be able to log into the app store and update my apps. We went back and forth 6 times and it never worked, each time saying, "ok, we've fixed it now and it should work". The final email said it is an Apple server problem and they were working to fix it. I wrote back and asked for an ETA as this has been going on since the iOS update. They never wrote back. I now have over 10 apps waiting to be updated. SO Frustrating!!!
