Error 8288 when upgrading my first gen Ipod Touch to IOS 3.1.

I am having some trouble trying to get IOS 3.1 on my first generation Ipod touch. I have the latest Itunes, I do not have any dvd burning software like Anydvd that can interfere, and I've tried it on two different computers with no avail. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Keep going, I'm rubbish with tech but I got there in the end if I'm honest I'm not even sure how! U can download 10.3 I couldn't tell you how to do it of the top of my head but if you search the forums u will find it! Sorry that's not much help! I think that I typed in google how to download 10.3 for my iPod first generation and I'm sure it took me to a forum telling me how to do it. Good luck!

I just wasted over 4 hours of my life attempting to get this update THAT I PAID FOR to work on my iPod Touch THAT I PAID FOR and I am still getting the 8288 error message. I have uninstalled and removed every trace of Apple and iTunes software on my machine over a dozen times and now my wife is upset that I am still awake trying to do this. SO... My biggest question how is Apple not satan for allowing hardworking, paying customers to purchase a defective update for $4.95 and offer no solutions to this problem that everybody seems to have encountered over the last SEVERAL MONTHS. I guess since we are all 1st generation iPod touch owners we should just bend over and buy another new product. All I wanted to do was play a little Angry Birds on New Years Day, which I also PAID FOR. Thanks for nothing Applemunchers.

As I wait patiently for itunes 10.3.something to install I ponder on why Apple just don't say it is impossible or something like we'll take your money anyways when you try and install ios 3.1.1 when having itunes 10.5 installed.

Can it be that hard ?

Not sure the enterprise market would wait months for such an obvious flaw to be fixed or at least made well known to its users.

And as I watch the installer tell me there is 1 minute to finish for the last half an hour I will now surf to find problems with installing 10.3.1 on snow leopard, and perhaps consider just giving up and ask for a refund for the applications I have purchased that gave no warning about not working with ios something. Sure all this is great for latest ipod touch, but no support for 1g ipods. Why not declare them unsupported like say G5s with dud capacitors.
