How do I enable these gestures? I have upgraded to iOS 5 on my iPad 1 and do not see this setting in the general tab of settings.

Ok, for us dummies out here. You down load Xcode. Do you start Xcode then plug your iPad in? Is there something that comes up that says "activate for development"?
Is assistive touch fully functional on IPad1? If so, can it be used to fully bypass the home button ? (return home and show multitasking bar)
Strange al these disappearing messages. AssitiveTouch is not fully functional on the ipad 1 too. The button show menu allways can not be unselected 😟 Another proof that it is all very well thought through by Apple with no escape way.
No, it is not working anymore, I just tried with my iPad 1 with iOS5 installed on it.
How many iPads 1 did they sell ?? If every customer send a feedback about this issue, they should react right ?

Your device is at least 9 months old. It is now obsolete and you are being unreasonable to expect ANY new features. You should be grateful to Apple for giving you anything at all!

@Urot: It may work on an iPad2 but not on the 1. Even using the Xcode trick it doesn't work.
Anyone has more info on the config.xlm file ?

I copied and pasted this directly from the Apple website. Pretty obvious mention of iPad2, NOT original iPad.

They changed it on the us site after people complaining. On other sites they didnt , taka look(apple.at)

No ipad 2 mentioned here, apple is fooling the customers. This is not a technical decission, they try to force people to buy new devices by feature elimination in the os.
Well spotted: you're seeing the update where the web site has been changed to correctly reflect our experience -- the fact that this web site change was done with no other explanation or apology to actually engage with users, feels like they are simply covering up the marketing of this feature as iPad general.
The web site reads fine now, but not for the past month where it was listed as just iPad.
As apple has removed the evidence from this forum also! thanks Apple, be silent here and try to silence us.

Very disappointed. I had the multi-tasking gesters enabled on my iPad 1 and loved using them. After updating to iOS 5 they have been disabled.

Extremely disappointed also. Multitask gestures were the only reason I updated to iOS5, stupidly trusting the iTunes message which told me they would be enabled. Next hardware upgrade will certainly be and Android device instead. This hardware is all fine, but the treatment of the customers isn't,
