How do I enable multitasking gestures in iOS 5.0 on iPad 1?

"iOS 5 includes a few new moves and shortcuts to help you get around even quicker on your iPad: Using four or five fingers, swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar, pinch to return to the Home screen, and swipe left or right to switch between apps."

How do I enable these gestures? I have upgraded to iOS 5 on my iPad 1 and do not see this setting in the general tab of settings.

Ditto

Original iPad owner, here. Huge proponent ofthe technology. Influenced many iPad & iPad 2 adopters. Feeling left out on this multigeture conversation.

What's most insulting is that it's purely a product management feature decision and has nothing todo with the physical device.

I could understand and live with a rational discussion that a feature is disabled due to hardware functionality, but as I see it, it's already been done on the iPad 1...so this was a subjective decision.

Not very cool, apple.

Disappointed.

People are finaly starting to realize what is important! Gestures are the most important feature we can get, it keeps our devices functional for a long time. The gestures were never intended to be available for Ipad 1 since they were not in betas I knew this and didn't upgraded to IOS 5. The gestures were available on IOS 4.3 just to allow developers to fix their apps to work with gestures. I don't think they will be enabled for Ipad 1. They are to important and they will make the Ipad 1 a compettitor for Ipad 2. I do hope I'm wrong! Ask yourself were is the most probable point of failure on all IDevices. Those gestures eliminates the last remaining critical point of failure. I'm surprised such a feature was released! If you have gestures enabled you have an unbreakable device.

Be happy that such a feature has ever been implemented. It will be used by millions of IPad2 users and that will make it less likely to be removed in the future! Revert to 4.3.5 or wait for a jailbreak. It is still possible to be implemented to IPad 1 but that may happen only after a very intense presure. This is a critical feature and they know it very well! This is not a mistake nor a bug!

Pretty interesting to read update notifications on email and see what has been hidden

My hope, and business advice to Apple, is to officially enable this feature on the original iPad rather than giving the community a "Yeah, remember when they decided to not allow multitouch/multitasking gestures on the original iPad."

Netflix has been tripping over its own feet the last couple months. I never expected Apple to make this kind of decision. I am very disappointed.

How do I revert back to 4.3.5? The Apple people I talked to on the phone yesterday assured me that this was not possible.

If I had been warned that I would lose multi-touch gestures (instead of having been promised that feature for my iPad), I would have simply NOT upgraded. Having multi-touch gestures is more important to me than any of the other new features because the intermittent Home button on my iPad makes it extremely frustrating to use without MTJ. I had been using MTJ for months with no problems at all, and I loved and depended on the feature.

But I was deceived into upgrading by the false advertising, lost the functionality I need, and can't revert.

I have been using Apple's products since 1982, and have been a huge evangelist for them over the decades. This is the first time they have made me absolutely furious at them. It is now over a day later, and I am STILL absolutely livid over this. My Apple advocacy ends now if this situation is not fixed.

Apple shouldn't behave like now.

APPLE SHOULD TALK TO US PAYING CUSTOMERS!!!!

Apple should not delete posts from this forum.

People posting here are mostly customers who like(d) the iPad because of its nice haptic. They (me included) got used to the gestures. If this is not possible with our iPad we will not buy a iPad 2 because of that!

It feels like Apple has stolen us something. And we want it back!
