How do I enable these gestures? I have upgraded to iOS 5 on my iPad 1 and do not see this setting in the general tab of settings.

notification center is working. But still feel really angry that apple excluded the multitasking gesture for ipad 1.
Colour me furious. There is no valid reason to cripple 1st generation iPads like this. It's worked fine for so many of us on older iOS versions that we all know it can work and is not a hardware limitation.
This is like being stabbed in the back at the end of a day in which many of us spent considerable time and frustration trying to get the update to work in the first place. Now I've lost one of the best features of recent times for what? To encourage me to spend a few hundred bucks on a newer version of the product? Brilliant logic Holmes!!! Angry customers will always spend more with you to alleviate their fury!!!
There is no way I am buying any more Apple products until this stupidity is reversed. How can I be sure I won't be dumped on again?

I get used to the the multitouch gesture for my iPad 1 already!! That works just fine and smooth!!
They should really enable the function for iPad 1 user!!
This was a feature i was looking forward to. It really is a GIANT oversight. If it can't properly run on the iPad 1 architecture and they did not disclaim this with the updates features list that really was stupid. I hope it is just an error in the initial 5 update and it is patched in the near future.
This is the singlemost stupid thing I've ever encountered regarding my iPad. You have a perfectly working feature, you update your device, the feature is gone.
Don't know yet if I'll jailbreak or just sell it, this feature was pretty much the only thing keeping me from switching to an Android tablet.
I'd appreciate it very much if you just brought this feature back.

I love the multi-tasking gestures that I have with 4.3, but not enough to buy an iPad2 less than a year after getting my iPad1.

I am very disappointed with the decision to leave these gestures out for iPad 1 users especially since there was NO mention of it being an iPad 2 specific feature as usually happens when a feature is limited by hardware.
I truly hope Apple fixes this in an update to iOS 5 soon! We purchased a 1st generation product and should recieve at least one major OS update with all of the features!

That was THE UPDATE I was looking forward to for the iPad. It would have made it so much easier to switch from my iBooks to my Notes. I use them both ALL THE TIME.

I have waited patiently for Mutitouch Gestures for my iPad 1. Ever since I heard about it months ago I wanted it. I am extremely disappointed and upset. I think Apple should let you send your iPad 1 in for exchange of iPad 2 if they won't et you have all the updates.

and submit a bug report saying it doesnt work on your ipad 1(thats what i did), if it says it "makes navigating on your ipad easier" and says nothing about it being an ipad 2 specific feature right on their website it SHOULD work, its either a bug or if not then this is stuping really low and could face legal issues, i too admit it was one of the key features i was most looking forward to and ill be darned if im going to get an ipad 2 just for that.

NO WHERE did I read multigestures would NOT be available for iPad 1 users and I am regrettably sorry I went thru the trouble of updating. I am NOT about to spend ANOTHER $500 to get a feature which should have been included in this "major" update.
This truly makes me reconsider buying iPhone 4S. Apple doesn't deserve any more of my money for such a "genuis" decision.
