How do I enable multitasking gestures in iOS 5.0 on iPad 1?

"iOS 5 includes a few new moves and shortcuts to help you get around even quicker on your iPad: Using four or five fingers, swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar, pinch to return to the Home screen, and swipe left or right to switch between apps."

How do I enable these gestures? I have upgraded to iOS 5 on my iPad 1 and do not see this setting in the general tab of settings.

Apple should really ad this multitouch gestures to ipad 1. without this the ipad ist nearly unuseable, because by the time you get used to these gestures the only use for the home button is to start the ipad. the use of the ipad ist really uncomfortable without the gestures, so apple ad this feature to the ipad 1 immediately!

I have just submitted this bug report:

"Well, what have you done?! A quick look at the blogs, twitter, social media and just about everywhere will show you how furious everyone is that multi-touch gestures were removed from iPad 1.

More so people are infuriated that this wasn't clearly stated prior to launch of the OS. Also the same has occured with Air Mirroring, why were we not informed prior to upgrade that these features would be removed?

I know multi-touch gestures work on the original iPad as I have been using it with xCode for months. If this was a "dazzlingly brilliant" idea to try and force people to upgrade to an iPad 2 it will back fire and serious questions should be asked of the person or team responsible for a) holding back these features and b) not communicating it to your consumers.

It's obvious from the outpouring of condolences and sentiments that Apple is a much loved Enterprise but if this is a sign of things to come after the passing of Steve Jobs I fear for the future of Apple.

You're consumers spend a significant amount of their income on your products and services and should be treated better.

I expect iOS 5.0.1 to be released tomorrow returning these features to the original iPad or mine and a lot of others peoples next table will be an Android one"

Suggest as many people as possible copy and paste this into a bug report as well and they might get the idea!

I've just signed up to this forum purely to express my disgust at this omission from iOS 5. Like many people on here this was one of the headline features for me and I am furious that this has not been included for iPad 1 users where there was no suggestion in Apple's documentation that this woule be an iPad2-only feature.

Apple - Please reinstate this feature immediately.

It looks like multi-touch gestures are available in iOS5 for iPad 1 but they are hiding under the accessibility setting. There's an option here that allows you to create custom gestures. Trouble is that I can't find out how to associate a gesture with an action.

Bloggers have been aware of this in the beta but no-one has yet figured out how it works.

So be on the look out for "configuring custom gestures in IOS5" on the interweb...

I've submitted a bug report too!

This is totally unacceptable for all iPad 1 users and i personally feel robbed and exluded by Apple pretty much because my year old iPad isn't "new" enough for them despite (as everyone else knows) that the harware on the iPad 1 is more than capable of supperting this function).

Buck you ideas up guys - it's not good practice and alienates millions of iPad 1 users who brought in to this product.

Fail,fail,fail....apple...why do you split and classify people? I was waiting for new iOS for a while and you disappointed me big time.

I moved from you already by getting HTC sensation and selling my iPhone 4. but I was happy with ipad1...but you just changed that and helped me to make another decision, which is buying android tablet! Asus transformer 2, here I am!

+1 here very dissapointed at the fact that this feature is not made for the Ipad 1st gen!

Guess this is the future of beeing an Apple Customer, if your product is not the latest version... oh welll.....

If we where talking here at differences from version 1 to like the Iphone that is already at version 4S, then i would understand, but cmo'n this is really a slap in the face for all the people that essentially made the Ipad a success by buying the 1st gen!!!

Oh well...
