Ugh, can't believe this happened.

Updated my iPad2 to iOS5, backup went smoothly, I was never asked for an encryption password nor the encryption option was checked.

Update went smoothly but now I can't get my data or apps back because the restore is asking for a password, so far none of this have worked:

- apple id (complete mail)

- apple id (before the @)

- login name

- 12345, 11111, 00000 (and a whole bunch of other numbers)

- givememydatabackyoufrickenpieceofsoftware

Hope we get an official reply to this issue soon, there are tons of people out there with the same problem.

Yes, that's the only way. Apple have to present a solution. It's a software bug. Maybe they are good designers, but the question is, if all my data is safe and if it's a good idea to leave any information in the hands of iCloud, iXyz, iDontKnow!

On the other hand, I think about, how many sh... was on the iPhone. Contacts I've not used over many times. They didn't call me, I didn't call them. Notes over bands, music, wine and so on. I've only collected this, but never used. If in the end of the game, I will loose all this stuff, it's a pitty that I loose some good pictures of Chico Ocaña my favorite flamenco singer, but I've learned some very important things. I felt to need iPhone and all these apps and collected information. That's not true. I'm free! iThings make me to be a slave. I've to start thinking in a new way. That's what I've learned.

My brother had this problem. It wound up being his email password that worked. My suggestion would to be to just try every password you've ever used on the device, starting with your Apple ID password, then moving through your mail/contacts/calendars passwords, then through app passwords.

I just upgraded to iOS5 and the password for the backup was the one from a TrueCrypt drive on my PC. It then proceeded with the restore -- although it did say that "iTunes was interrupted" and I had to click on "continue" to continue the restore. Then the restore completed, phone rebooted, and now it looks like all is well. A minor heart-attack averted. In the middle of the restore the phone reboots and you have to answer a few questions on the phone itself. Then it restores all your apps, music, and videos.

I have the same problem with the password and I tried all passwords I used before. It worked with one of my password which is the passcode in my iPhone 3GS. But then another problem came and iTunes is saying that

"an error occured while restoring this iPhone (-1)

I restored to factory settings and tried to restore back up again, the same problem.

I NEED MY DATA!!!! HEEEELP!!!!
