iPhone 4 5.0 Upgrade 3200 Error

I am trying to upgrade a vanilla iPhone 4 to the 5.0 software and the process works fine and after the backup and extraction, I get the 3200 error. Any help on solving for my Mac OS Lion?

Ok this is a temporary fix what I found out,

First download the iPhone Firmware from the following site, It is the official firmware and even downloads from Apple.

http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ - Choose your model, e.g iPhone 4

Now once that is downloaded go to the following folder -

C:\Users\YOURUSER\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

Once you are they copy the file you just downloaded into it, then click Update. It will now skip the download process and will Update. I was having the same issue then I did this and its almost updated. Hope it helps 😉

I submit that none of that is necessary, and the fact that it worked may just be a coincidence. But, of course, I have no way of knowing for sure.

Several have argued that it's a pain because the backup takes so long. 1. I think there is a way to do it without backing up each time; unfortuantely, this is a lame offer since I don't know what that is (although i'm sure if it is true you can find in forums). 2. I just made it so my backup doesn't take long. Took a lot of the big stuff off the phone before doing it. It'll be easy to put it back on there (music, video; that's my only "big" stuff).

Have you or other confirmed the 3200 error is an Apple Server error?

I have two PC's, both Win 7 / 64. One is used for my iPad and one is used for my iPhone. I can't get either device to upgrade to iOS5 as they both get the 3200 error.

I have ZERO firewall turned on... ZERO antivirus turned on, and running newest iTunes. So all basic fix stuff has been tried.

So if we are sure it is an Apple Server Connection Issue, then I won't keep troubleshooting and just keep trying until it goes through.

It is not an issue with your OS (look at all the ones affected). It is not your phone or ipad (look at all the ones affected). It is not your internet, laptop, or anything that you own. So what is left? Apple. They are being bombarded by requests, and it is obvious that is the issue.

Retrying over and over and over again is not fixing the issue, either, but contributing to it. If you can be patient and wait, and try again later, you'll probably find success.

For future reference, any 3XXX code is network related.

This method I mentioned has got me up and running 😉

To avoid Backup AGAIN and AGAIN after you successfully downloaded the 720Mb file AND backuped your ipad at least once:

1. Hold Left-Shift key and Click "Restore" button in iTunes

2. Look for the File: ussually in (Windows 7):

C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPad Software Updates

3. choose the file you downloaded and click OK

4. Keep trying step 1-3

Sorry, but that does not work absolutely. I did this a half hour ago and it did not help. Also, everyone needs to be careful AFTER doing this. Everytime you try to update, you think the backup is being done, but then after the error, they backup IS NOT THERE. If you then try to do a update using the Shift-Update button, you won't have a backup to restore from on the new software. If you deleted your backup, be sure to just SYNC your phone first WITHOUT the update. It will make a brand new backup. Then keep trying Shift-Update, find the update software on your computer that you downloaded and try to update. I've tried at least 20 times so far and errors, so I am giving up for now and will try again later. Just make sure your Backup is still there if you deleted it to try this method.

Holy crap people. Get a grip.

Just wait until tomorrow. Or late tonight.

It's pretty well documented it's a server issue...and anything you are doing that makes yours work, is most likely coincidence.

We've become a society of immediate gratification - if we don't get it NOW it ****** us off.

Relax, go take a walk outside, do something productive. You'll get your update!!!

It could be coincidence but I tried everything under the sun to get my iPhone 4 to upgrade to iOS5. Probably retried 10 times since about 11am central today.

It dawned on me that this could be related to a network connectivity issue so I decided to use a LAN connection instead of trying this over my wifi network. Since wifi is inherently intermittent, I figured it couldn't hurt.

First attempt after using my LAN connection and it was successful!
