iOS 5 Breaks Bluetooth Connectivity with my Clarion FZ709

When I upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS 5, blueooth connectivity with my Clarion FZ709 car stereo no longer works. The phone and stereo will discover each other fine but when the phone connects it drops the connection after 2 seconds. Attempting to reconnect has the same results.

Undiscovering and rediscovering doesn't work either.

I actually submitted a bug for this months ago. I did communicate back and forth with apple and got it diagnosed. Unfortunately, they told me it was a known bug and closed my ticket as a duplicate. I'm not able to see the other bug to find out its progress which kind of *****. With each new beta I tried again only to see it still failing. Based off the Bluetooth codes I was seeing in the logs, it looks like the receiver sends some codes to the phone which were not understood, and for some reason it decides to disconnect instead of ignoring. Hopefully they'll fix this soon. Pretty annoying that you can't use the Bluetooth already in your car.

I should also add that the USB connection is having issues for me as well. The audio plays fine (the best interface for quality), but it no longer will charge my phone. I seriously doubt that upgrading the OS should prevent my battery from charging, so I think this is a bug as well. I did not report this, but maybe Apple will look into this as well. I don't see why iOS 4 can charge my phone just fine, but iOS 5 cannot.

That being said, bluetooth connectivity is still a bigger priority for me.

Count me as another affected by this stupid bug. I really hope Clarion will come out with an firmware update, but I kind of doubt it because I don't think they have ever done an update for the FZ709. I was hoping the bluetooth would improve with iOS 5 (ie autoplay working when iPhone first connected to BT) but instead it doesn't work at all. But the iOS 5 does work with my wife's Venza. I really don't want to downgrade, so will wait and see how fast a fix will come.

Same problem with my Clarion FZ 709 after upgrading to iOS 5. Before this upgrade all works fine. Its no problem with the new iPhone 4s, its a problem with iOS 5. I could re-produce this problem with the new 4s and the older iPhone 4. Both are running iOS 5 and are still not longer able to connect via Bluetooth. After initial pairing the connection get broken after a few seconds. Yesterday i have upgraded both devices to 5.0.1 but the problem is still not fixed. From Clarion i got the feedback that they are not able to fix this issue because it seems that the problem depends on a change by Apple done within the new iOS. So hopefully Apple will recognize this problem and deliver a bug fix within the next iOS upgrade.

I have exactly the same problem with my Clarion FZ 709. Before upgrading to IOS 5 everything worked perfectly. After upgrading my 3 GS to IOS5 the iPhone connects to the Clarion via Bluetooth and after a few seconds the connection is lost. I hoped that the problem would be solved with my new iPhone 4S, but still the same issue.

Need a fix soon.

Since the phone / pairing works fine with all of my other Bluetooth devices, I'm less inclined to think this is an Apple bug and more of a Clarion implementation issue (ie they didn't fully or properly implement the spec). Like others I've faxed Clarion, although based on the fact that you can't actually reach anyone in their support I'm not hopeful about getting anything from them. The head unit has a USB port, so I'm thinking there is a way to upload new firmware. I don't buy that they can't or won't do anything. This one seems like it might take the threat of a class action suit. I guess my next call is to Amazon since that's where I bought it, less than a year ago.
