When I upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS 5, blueooth connectivity with my Clarion FZ709 car stereo no longer works. The phone and stereo will discover each other fine but when the phone connects it drops the connection after 2 seconds. Attempting to reconnect has the same results.
Undiscovering and rediscovering doesn't work either.

Reply to myself... Shockingly, I got a call from someone in Clarion's support group as a response to my fax! They have repsoduced the problem, and he claimed they are working with Clarion software engineers in Japan to see if they can create a fix. Obviously this isn't the same as HAVING the fix, and he didn't commit that they could or would fix the problem, but they are working on it. This is a better response than I expected. I take back some of my nasty grumbling.
That's good news (I guess). Thanks for following up with Clarion. Hope it means they are actually working on it.
If you go back to the beginning of this discussion, it was already stated that Clarion had contacted me that they reproduced the problem and they would contact Japan. Then there's a reply from someone that said Clarion's Japan factory said they can't fix it.
Just to add to what B. Kennedy just said: Since IOS 5 was released, there have been a large number of new bluetooth issues with a lot of different devices. Clarion, Honda, Ford, GPS devices, etc. Just do a search.
I have read in a few places that Apple has made their bluetooth stack more strict in IOS 5 to follow standards. I am assuming they view this as progress, and that backwards compatibility is not as important. They probably think any vendors that have created devices that don't follow the standards have themselves to blame if things don't work.
I can't help but wonder how any benefit that IOS users are obtaining by Apple's bluetooth stack changes are worth the number of users they are alienating. There's nothing we as customers can do about Apple's business strategies other than buying another product. Something tells me Apple is not very worried about this.
Hi there, today I had the same surprise with my bluetooth connection to my car´s stereo, it breaks within seconds. Could it be the iOS5 update as you mention here? I hope Apple would fix this since there´s no way of updating the car stereo software

Count me as another Clarion FZ709 user with useless bluetooth after the iOS5 update. Hopefully one of these companies comes up with a fix soon, I'm missing a lot of phone calls!
FYI, I tested out 5.1 beta 1 with an iPhone 4 and it did not work
What's weird is that my 4S (5.0.1) will not respond to USB, but the iPhone 4 (5.1) does respond by messages that it can't charge the device. Something weird is going on with the USB, although its not really related to the bluetooth issue.
I just upgraded my iphone 4 running 4.x software to iphone 4s running 5.1 Now I cant use my FZ709 either. This looks like the place to vent. Good thing I still have my old iphone 4 with old software. This is very frustrating and I also sent the fax to Clarion. I guess this new iphone 4s will sit in its box till we get a fix.

A few hours after sending the fax as suggested by another forum user I also received a call from a Clarion rep stating that they are aware of the problem and working with their software guys to create an update. I am now on a list to be notified when its available. I asked how long and he couldnt say but also added that the software department can be slow.
So maybe we still have some hope of getting a firmware update.
Using a new iPhone 4s and my Jawbone Icon... Lot's of intermittent drops of Bluetooth connectivity.
I'll call someone on the phone, and it remains connected. They call me back 30 seconds later, and the call is routed to the phone. Very frustrating... and it's illegal to talk without hands free in my state. I'm extremely frustrated with this problem. I've tried rebooting the phone, resetting the Jawbone... erasing all connections and recreating them... No luck... Turn the Jawbone off and back on... maybe it will be connected, maybe it won't. It connects about 70% of the time and 50% of that 70% has poor sound quality. I'm constantly saying, "What? What? What?" to the people I talk to.
I often wind up with my Jawbone in one ear and the iPhone held up to the other.
If I get a ticket, will Apple pay for it? I doubt it.

Had no Time for 14 Days to switch from iphone 4 with 4.3.x to 4s with 5.0
So i just had found that there is a problem with the Bluetooth Disconnect after 1s.
So, is Clarion able to update the Firmware or not? To late to call them before Monday.
Can`t believe that you can make such a Product today, without the Chance to Update the Firmware.
And Apple, why did you change the working Bluetooth stack? Why suddenly start do stick to the Standard, now, that everybody has "compatible with ipod/iphone" Products? But not for iOS 5.
I will call Apple Support on Monday too, since i just bought the Stuff.
Will not post here, how frustrated i`m about this.

Just tried with 5.1 beta 2, no luck
As a registered Apple iPhone Developer, I have submitted a bug report for this issue, which began way earlier, in the iOS 5 beta 3. Unfortunately, I'm at each new beta submitting a new bug report for this very same issue. We are now on iOS 5.1 beta 2 and I've sent 10 reports so far...
Something in their new Bluetooth stack is dropping the connection after 5 or less seconds. This is not a disconnect message from the unit (FZ509 user too), but the iOS. However Apple appears too busy to assign someone to even take a look on that. Oh, well...
Anyway, Clarion may or may not be able to fix this. If their product is smart enough to receive a software update via USB cable, I believe we may receive a fix earlier than Apple's code update.
Clarion had said previously that although this unit has a USB port, the Japanese development unit said it cannot fix it on their end. The chipset being used, which is also being used in units installed in Honda's and Toyota's which have the same problem, is the issue. Apple is very strict on programming methods and scoff's at "workarounds" which is probably why they aren't in any hurry to fix this issue.
But I will tell you this, I will never update to a major iOS upgrade ever again. I haven been left without phone communication in my truck for 2 months.
