iOS 5 Breaks Bluetooth Connectivity with my Clarion FZ709

When I upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS 5, blueooth connectivity with my Clarion FZ709 car stereo no longer works. The phone and stereo will discover each other fine but when the phone connects it drops the connection after 2 seconds. Attempting to reconnect has the same results.

Undiscovering and rediscovering doesn't work either.

I actually submitted a bug for this months ago. I did communicate back and forth with apple and got it diagnosed. Unfortunately, they told me it was a known bug and closed my ticket as a duplicate. I'm not able to see the other bug to find out its progress which kind of *****. With each new beta I tried again only to see it still failing. Based off the Bluetooth codes I was seeing in the logs, it looks like the receiver sends some codes to the phone which were not understood, and for some reason it decides to disconnect instead of ignoring. Hopefully they'll fix this soon. Pretty annoying that you can't use the Bluetooth already in your car.

Since the FZ709 is no longer in the Program (at least for Germany)

and i don`t want this ugly 7-Way Wheel Drive for Navigation on the Radio,

there is not much left.

This ugly Wheel was the reason i didn`t bought a Pioneer or Alpine or Kenwood

Driveless Radio insteadt the Clarion.

Clarion Germany hasn`t repleyd to my Support Request, maybe due the Holidays,

i still use my Iphone 4 with iOs 4.3.3. instead the new 4s.

Shame on Apple for this Support and Clarion not be able to provide Firmware Updates.

Seems to be my first and only Clarion CarRadio ever.

Sorry, still not working on iOS 5.1 beta3 - and another bug report sent to Apple. I am starting to think my reports are going to /dev/null...

Anyway, you may try to connect your phone to the head unit while on a call. I had some "success" (notice the quotes) using this approach, however it last until unit was powered down or phone went out of range. Either way, if you know you are going on a long trip, or if you will need your phone for some long talk, you may try to call any toll free number (maybe your own carrier, at least in here they love to keep you waiting for 40+ minutes) and then after a couple pairing tries, your FZ-709 may get sound again.

This *****. Period. But is better than nothing ATM.

I'm outta here. I will not be held hostage and after consideration, I'm going to blame Clarion for this mess. That this unit is not firmware upgradable through the USB port is ridiculous. Additionally I have stopped receiving communication from the corporate office.

I sold my Clarion on eBay and got a Parrot Asteroid. It makes the Clarion look 20 years old. If I have learned a lesson, whatever unit you buy make sure it is firmware upgradable. I won't be buying Clarion again.

Talked last Monday with Clarion Germany Merchant Hotline.

One of the most useless, worst Helpdesk Calls i ever had.

Absolutly incompetent, unfriendly Person.

- 100% no Updates from Clarion for this Radio. Not possible The Chip has a fixed Software (how stupid this today is to have no Chance for Updates)

- They blame Apple for not staying with the Bluetooth Standard.

- They say Apple should fix it, since they made it not working

(but Clarion is not able to download iphone Phonebooks to the Radio)

- Since the Modell is already old, and out of the Programm (without Follow Device) they also have no interesst.

- they have not answered to my Fax Request from Dez. Last Year:

Response: Don`t use fax, we don`t answer this. Use the Web interface (then why offer the Fax Hotline Number?)

Fact for me:

First and last Clarion Car Radio ever.

Not with this Support and Handling of Customer Problems.

Will sell mine soon and got something different.

To all blaming Clarion on this issue (myself included):

Android based:

Samsung Galaxy S-II

LG Optimus 3D

Sony Ericsson Xperia arc

Motorola Defy

Win7 Mobile based:

HTC Titan II

Nokia Lumina 900

Samsung Focus Flash

How come ALL OF THE ABOVE (sorry for the caps) works with this Clarion FZ-709 unit, just the "incredible", "amazing", "revolutionary" and "mighty" iPhone don't?

Seriously it is not Apple's fault?

I've personally paired all of the above phones (from my coworkers) to the Clarion unit and ALL of them worked flawlessly - contacts paired included in some devices, a feature it was NEVER implemented by Apple. I've personally submitted bug reports for ALL beta releases since first 5.0 beta 1 about this issue, and I've NEVER got a reply besides the automated respose.

And heck, where is anyone from Apple on this thread?

This is a shame. Seriously.
