Cannot restore/update iPhone. Internal error iOS5

I'm trying to update from iOS 4.3.5 to iOS5 but when I try to update I recieve an error during the restore process. I think it is an error with verifying the update. User uploaded file

It's a refurbished iPhone. Anyone else having the same issue?

Add me to the list as well. iPhone 4 "cannot restore... internal error" problem like all the rest. It successfully downloaded the update, backed up the phone, and then got to the "extracting software" step. Immediately after completing that, I can see the upgrade status quickly change to "Veryifying restore with Apple" (or something to that effect) and then it immediately crashes. The "verifying" message is only up for a split second, so I can't quite read it perfectly, but I'm pretty sure that's what it says.

So maybe it is something to do with the fact that the servers are intensely busy right now. After all, it took Safari almost 30 seconds just for me to log into the Apple website to type this post.

Ditto: same vague error with a iPhone 4 and first-generation iPad on a MacBook Pro. Most-recent iTunes all setup. No difference in having built-in firewall active/stopped.

I made some progress when I signed out of iCloud on my Mac. The process got a half-second further, but I still got the same message. What was different is that the iPad restarted. Still, I guess a different result is better than the same result time and time again.

I've had this issue 3 times now. So i've deleted the first version download from

~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates and am currently downloading for a second time...

Since doing this I've read this article, which may explain the problem: http://thenextweb.com/apple/2011/10/12/apples-ios-5-upgrade-servers-are-slammed- causing-3200-or-internal-error-update-issues/?awesm=tnw.to_1BJuQ&utm_campaign=&u tm_medium=tnw.to-other&utm_source=t.co&utm_content=spreadus_master

I know most of you aren't going to want to hear this...but...I was having the same problem, 'cannot restore...internal error' (iPad 2, iMac). I tried it about 5 times, then on number 6, it worked! The only thing I did different between all six attempts was unplug the iPad from the keyboard (third attempt) and plug it directly into the iMac...still didn't work, but after attempt #5, I restarted iTunes and low-n-behold...it worked.

Same issue here. Frustrating ....

After 8 attempts it randomly worked.

Been using mac since it's inception and I can liken this to pre-ordering iPhones etc... There are a TON of people accessing the Apple servers right now from all over the planet for the updates just released (and there are a few of them today not just for the phone) not to mention regular traffic as well. Painful to say but just keep trying 😉 You'll get through.

Everyone read this!!

This is why some people are having some luck after trying the update several times. Let's all just stop swamping the servers and be patient! Try again tonight when half the US is asleep.
