Cannot restore/update iPhone. Internal error iOS5

I'm trying to update from iOS 4.3.5 to iOS5 but when I try to update I recieve an error during the restore process. I think it is an error with verifying the update. User uploaded file

It's a refurbished iPhone. Anyone else having the same issue?

I have the same issue. I am on an iPhone 3GS, now running 4.3.5.

When trying to update I get the following error messages: "The iPhone "xxxxx" could not be restored. An internal error occurred", and after downloading the iPhone2,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw file from the Apple servers to try it that way, I get another error message. "The iPhone "xxxxx" could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (3002)."

Apple says: "Error 3002: If you experience this error while updating an iPod touch (2nd generation) or iPhone 3G, please use the standard update or restore process in iTunes (click Update or Restore)."

So Apple is sending me in circles, since I just tried that and it did not work.

I've tried Option-Clicking update and then pointing iTunes to the update that I've downloaded to my desktop, one benefit of doing it this way is that it bypasses the backup process, which takes forever. Now I'm getting a 3002 error when it tries to access the iTunes store to verify the software. I'm assuming that the problem is that they are getting hammered with requests and just can't handle the traffic. Not going to get any better for the next couple of days.

I've done this about 6 times in a row and it errors out every time.

be patient. Try later. I had the same problem. I updated my iPod Touch to IOS5 and it is ok. Tried my iPhone 4 and it failed. tried 5 times kept failing. Finally it worked. I noticed a message in the iTunes window that said "Verifying iPhone restore with Apple". I think the network was busy and this was timing out.

Hey guys so if you keep running into this problem like I was, you are going to want to Restore and update WITHOUT backing up. For some reason thats what I did and now it seems to be getting the job done. You can always put your info back on after the entire process is complete.

If this doesn't work don't be afraid to try it a couple of times. It will not damage the phone in anyway.

process takes a bit but its better than sitting there and getting no where.

Oh and im not running Lion for those of you that are wondering.

Am having the same problem on iPod Touch 4G. Downloaded software, backed up iPod, then after the software extracts, it tries to verify it with Apple, then comes up with 'The iPod "xxx" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3200)." I'm in Australia.. guess I'll just wait until this afternoon when most of the world is (hopefully) asleep 😟

Yes, that's the thing. Even though the iPhone had already downloaded the software, iTunes still checks a last thing before restoring it ("checking iPhone restore with Apple" or something). Something should be wrong when doing that check, so it stops. After 5 attempts, it finally worked for me. It's restoring from my backup now.

Don't be surprised when the iPhone asks you for configuration right in the device. Some steps must be done prior to restoring your backup via iTunes.

Patience, grass-hoppers. It's worth it.
