Cannot restore/update iPhone. Internal error iOS5
iPhone 4
I just got off with applecare and this is why everyone is calling them. Same basic message. He just told me to try again in an hour, and keep trying .. The servers are overloaded ! Everyone is trying to download, and it is bogging them down
Where and how do you disable the firewall...on the iPhone or on the computer?
The update isn't working because the installation process needs to be verified with Apple's servers, which are flooded by everyone trying to update. My installation broke during the verification process and now my iPhone is bricked. So if you still have a working iPhone, wait until the upgrade rush ends before trying. Otherwise you'll just be staring at a black screen like me 😟.
Haha awesome. I finally got the update to work and while it was restoring the firmware, the USB got caught on my boot and unplugged my phone. Now it's stuck in recovery mode and I'm not able to restore a previous backup.
That's basically it; I don't know but suspect that Apple's servers are wildly overloaded.
Before the update can be applied, iTunes has to authorize the update to the device, and that's the part that's failing almost immediately upon download of the update.
My advice is, as Brian stated, wait until later tonight and all should work.
i had trouble, so i kept retrying. now my phone is stuck in restore mode and still wont update, so now i cant operate any function on the phone at all

so Apple should have a error message the explains that. "We're sorry, but do to overwhelming responce to new updates, your update cannot be completed at this time. Please try again later."
Instead of a generic error that makes some think the update is trashing their phone
my download completed without a hitch, the verification before it applies is what hangs
My update failed, get the failed to restore due to unknown error 3004 and my phone is now bricked. NEVER AGAIN will I try to download on day 1.
Anyone got a plan for when your iphone is bricked when the update crashes halfway through? Currently looking at the white apple logo and the spinning icon on a black screen on a loop.
Errored out 3-4 times, now my iPhone 4 is in a non stop power cycle every 3 minutes, Every year these major updates and phone releases get worse,
Thanks Apple....time to go to a less crowded platform.
I was skeptical myself, but after 5 failed attempts to install ios5, I figured I'd give it a try and I turned of the network filter on Little Snitch. It totally could be a coincidence, but it worked smoothly right after this.
I did seem as though it was a network load issue on Apple's end, but maybe the Little Snitch filter caused a delay which timed out the install... who knows!
Good luck!
same here! my iPhone 4 is in a non stop power cycle every 3 minutes. iTunes doesn't show my iPhone! What can i do?
Finally fixed my two issues (not updating/stuck in DFU mode). All I had to do was open Terminal and use the dscacheutil -flushcache command and it restored my iPhone (to iOS 5, oddly enough).
I'm digging it.
