Problems installing iOS 5 on iPad

I keep getting this "an error occured while backing up this iPad (-48). Would you like to continue to update this iPad? Continuing will result in the loss of all contents on this iPad?". Please help.

A little different twist. Using Imac and updated to current itunes 10.5 etc. Tried to update Ipad and got an internal error. Ipad will not show up in devices regardless of how many reboots etc. When connected to usb and comp the screen on the ipad shows the apple symbol, the status progress bar comes on for a few seconds and then the spinning wheel. It keeps going through this sequence but does not show in devices in Itunes. I have tried resetting via home and sleep buttons, tried to turn Ipad off but slide bar does not show up when holding the sleep button. Its a perpetual cycle. Any suggestions? I dont think there is any other way to reset other than the 2 buttons on the ipad but clearly it is not being seen by itunes.

Thanks IA

Not yet, everyone is asleep here for tech support. Scheduled a call back but not available till Friday. Will try calling in the morning when tech wakes up. The Ipad is locked up tighter than a drum; are you getting the same cycle pattern on the ipad screen; apple symbol for about a minute, status bar for about 2 seconds then spinning wheel? I cannot turn ipad off, just stuck in cycle.

Well at least we know its an international problem 😁. If you get an answer (since you are a bit ahead of me, I am in Portland Oregon) post up. You somewhat expect some issues but I think Mr. Jobs is having a bit of fun with us. Its about 2:15 am here so I am going back to sleep. BTW, done a number of motorcycle trips in Europe and Germany. I really love your country and look forward to going back in the not too distant future. Spent quite a bit of time around Heidelburg and Manheim.

Best

My iPad shows again in iTunes! Here what I did: the iPad was connected to my mac, I pressed both Sleep/Wake and Home button for a few seconds then when the Apple logo appeared again I let go the Sleep/Wake button and stayed on the home button... then iPad was back again! Well it's was not immediatly an happy end... I clicked on "Restore" button on iTunes... it start to restore, but again like yesterday I got this error message... I tried again and this time the update went thru!!! I wish you the some!!! Let me know

I've had very similar experience. iPhone 4 updated fine yesterday. Hooked up iPad 1 today to update it and ran into restore problems, internal error. USB says device not recognized. Same result with reattempt too. The USB I was connecting to was one on the side of my monitor which is connected to my PC (hub connected to PC USB port essentially). Moved cable to an open USB port directly on PC and restore is now in process. Hopefully this will be successful... Fingers crossed

not so much for me. wiped everythign out, and then could not restre from most recent backup. finaaly got a real old BU to load, now trying to get everything back that way it was. tried to backup to iCloud, server too busy.

it getting to be like Microsoft - constant & massive updates, requiring way too much work on the part of the user. what a shame and what a waste of time

what a cluster ^&*% this release is. Tim Cook has blown his first big release

I've been thinking the same thing about the massive updates requiring too much work by the user. That is what I expected from Microsoft, but not from Apple. I also agree that this set of releases (iOS 5, Lion update, iPhoto update, trying to implement iCloud, etc.) was a total cluster f*** and Apple should have rolled the changes out incrementally, not all at once.

It reminds me of the mess they made of the MobileMe rollout at the same time they released iPhone 3G a few years ago, and in fairness to Tim Cook, Steve was still firmly at the helm at the time of that debacle.
