I have tried numerous of the recommendations posted here and other places. For the most part, they work on a temporary basis, and then I'm back trying to figure out why WiFi sync is not working. Just FYI, and for what it's worth, my buddy and I are beta testing the next iOS software update; I am testing it on my iPad2, and, since Beta 3 came out yesterday, it has synced over the air with no problem, even with multiple computer restarts. My friend reports the same for his iPod Touch. My other iOS devices using the currently released software still have an enormous failure rate. So maybe the iOS software is the problem, or maybe it's iTunes, or maybe a whole host of other issues. But I just thought I'd let you know that we did see improvement with Beta 3 of the next iOS update.

Sooka, this is not an IT support service, this is a community support forum, please read and attempt other posters suggestions before repeating the question which we are all trying to solve. Fundamentally this is a firewall issue. The Bonjour service requires that IPv6 is enabled and that your firewall is configured to allow it access across the Ppropriate range. Because of the variety of set-ups around a specific IPv6 address is difficult to pin down however you MUST allow port 5353 on IPv4 for UDP AND TCP between your iPhone, Router and Computer, as indicated by a previous poster sometimes the UPnP broadcast times out before a connection is established, ensure your broadcast is set to at least 10 seconds. Also set all Apple services (especially Bonjour) to Delayed Automatic Start in your service management console. If you don't understand any of the above please utilise Google, it is your friend.

Cheers

My 2p's worth that solved my issue , although i seemed to have done a couple of things and can't pinpoint which one resolved it.

First off I had neorouter VPN running on my WIN7 Ultimate 64bit. It seems that even though neorouter isn't actually showing up in the tray doesn't mean it's not still connected. I had to open the utility and manually sign out and disconnect from neorouter to drop the connection.

While I was doing the first step The second step I did was to tell the phone to forget the current wifi connection and then reconnected to it. (same network, DHCP assigned it same IP too.) . As soon as the ip4 reconnected to the network the wifi sync button activated. Which one was the cause ?? , I don't actually know but i suppose it's worth looking into VPN's that are running , hamachi , neorouter or similar

From the skim reading i did , doesnt seem that anyone has done step 2 !? ( i did only skim read 14 pages .so therefore could easily be wrong )

It seems like everyone has different circumstances for the problem. Like others, I was properly configured with the checkboxes etc but my iPhone said "sync will resume when computer (name) is available." I tried everything from complete reinstalls to changing the wifi router, all the Windows firewall/antivirus rules, UPnP config, checking for conflicting ports, etc. Nearly tore my hair out on this one.

My setup: iPhone 4S, Windows Vista Ultimate, wifi sync, Windows Firewall, AVG antivirus

What worked for me:

The service "Apple Mobile Device" was set to start automatically. I changed it to Automatic (Delayed Start) and all is right with the world. The iPhone does not need to be plugged into power to sync via wifi. It seems that the Windows Firewall (or possibly AVG?) was launching after Apple Mobile Device and killing its TCP/IP port. Setting it to a delayed start ensured that it opened its port after the firewall was active.

How to do it:

Quit iTunes. Then choose Start> Run... > and type "services.msc" and hit Enter. Right-click on "Apple Mobile Device" and choose "Properties". Change Startup Type to "Automatic (Delayed Start)". You can go ahead and hit Stop and then Start to restart the service. Launch iTunes and see if your iPhone is now able to sync. Restart and relaunch iTunes to confirm that this fix worked for you.

After pouring over forum after forum, post after post seeing the same thing over and over, I was beginning to give up hope until the next patch. But since this problem has been going on since October, I wasn't too optimistic about that, either. Assuming you have your device and your computer on the SAME NETWORK, iTunes running on your PC, and the "Sync with this [DEVICE] over Wi-Fi" box checked, give this solution a try. It worked for me after trying everything else including the UPnP, port forwarding, reinstall, etc suggestions. Thank you, Technum. You saved me from ripping out more hair!

Hello everybody,

I couldn't sync over wifi either even though I had the sync options checked in Itunes and on my Ipad.

My solution was simple, in Itunes I went to "Edit", "Preferences", "Sharing" and ticked the "Share My Library On My Local Network".

My computer immediately became visible on my Ipad

I think a lot of people are assuming that everyone has this option checked already.

MacLombie is a genius. I checked all the boxes, checked all software revisions, etc...iPad and iPhone all worked, Touch would not wireless sync, even did a software restore, rebooted everything. Even Find iPhone worked on all devices, argh! Then I came across MacLombie'spost, checked the WiFi the Touch was sitting on and there it was. It was set to my guest network on the Airport. Moved that to the main and now I am happy and all is well. Just wish podcasts would sync through iCloud.

i was just having issues with my 4S (5.0.1) to my MacBook running the latest Lion/iTunes install.

following along with what Helios21was talking about I checked the settings on the router and realized it was set to auto channel for the 2.4 & the 5GHz network. did a quick KisMAC scan to see what all channels were being used near me and set it to 10 (5GHz) and 2 (2.4GHz)* and my 4S showed up about a minute after I saved the settings.

*everyone should note that I used the channels I used because they were the only two no one else near me was using. those channels might not work/be the best for your router in your area.
