I, like many others, kept getting "An internal error occurred" when trying to upgrade my iPhone 4 to iOS 5. Foolishly, I continued to hit the Update button and try again. It eventually led to my iPhone being in recovery mode. I am now unable to restore the phone due to the ongoing issues with Apple's servers and unable to use the phone because the failed upgrade process placed the phone in recovery mode.
Exactly the same for me. Really ****** off! No phone now. Hopefully this is a temporary problem and will be resolved by server availability shortly!
Started Updating 4h ago, it starts wirth failure 3200, now i had to restore my iPhone4 complete.
Now ist shows 3004/3014, okay many people like to update mobile devices.
But thats not the service i paid so much money, got a stuck iPhone an every try to recover it is a hopeless try!
Keep trying, mine was bricked for about and hour or so, i kept trying to restore / recover and it finally happened, it restored to the iOS5 and is now in the process of syncing \ restoring my apps and other data.
It seemed to fail a dozen times when trying to contact the server for the original update before it bricked its self.
A reboot later and then some persistance and its happening.
Not smooth, that said no iOS upgrade has ever been smooth for me, its part of the deal.
Ive even taken my macbook pro in to work so i can spend the day if i had to sorting it out.

Sorry to say but the phone is completely dead. Failed in update as well as restore. Quality dropped down to zero when Tim's in charge?

After I tried to update to iOS5 my phone entered into an infinite reboot mode. It just cylces and cycles over and over again. I can't even turn it off. I have tried everything I can think of (including holding both the Power and Home buttons, etc.)...
Now I have no phone... like many others here.
3hrs 37min 25sec out of service. I'm not sure I understand. I do know its become common place for server over tasking. Isn't there a solution for this in a modern society where smart phones pretty much encompass the earth?
I'm just saying:)
