iOS5 update causes over capacity problem?

I had the same thing happen! The only thing I could do to fix it was to perform a FULL restore. Then load an iPhone restore from a previous backup. I'm now waiting hours for all my apps and music to transfer back....

I just did the update and I had almost 3gb free before the update and after the ios5 update, I went over 4gb! I did a quick re-sync, did not change anything, just synced again and I got my 3gb back. Hope it works out for you guys.

Agreed... same thing happened to me. Re-sync fixed it, it won't show you that you gained your capcity back until the last minute when its "Finishing Sync".

I think we might need to restore but I'm not yet sure. I'm doing my iPad first to see how that goes. If there is no problem with the iPad I think I will try to restore the iPhone...

I had the same issue. I restarted my macbook and then resynced and it seemed to go away on its own.

Try checking and unchecking the options on the summary page, such as the "only checked songs" or "open itunes when this iphone is connected" options. It fixed mine and several others with the same problem.

You don't have to change save the change - just check it and then uncheck it or vice versa.

I had the same thing the first time but I re-synced my iPhone and it fixed the over limit issue. I changed my screens since it spread my apps over different screens to match what I had before and it adjusted the space to the normal capacity.

I was having the same problem. I was over capacity by about 20GB. Did a sync and it sorted itself out even though it showed that it was over capacity

I seem to have figured out why it was happening on my phone. I went through and each of the tabs for photos, music, movies, etc. were unchecked in iTunes. I rechecked them to apply my settings for each tab and it removed the over capacity "other" from my phone. I am syncing now so hopefully this has solved the issue.

Gettting this too; except it still hasn't cleared despite trying all the various fixes proposed in this thread. Anyone restored their iPhone back and used the iOS 4 backup suceesfully?

same thing happening to me, i just tried restoring, when it started syncing apps the "other" section started increasing rapidly. up so i stopped it and removed app syncing. obviously not a permanent solution!

now its syncing my music at a very slow rate.

feels like a bug to me.

Once my phone was finished syncing, the capacity went back to what it was prior to the iOS5 update and restore process.
