How to upload a document to iCloud from Mac?

Hi. I have successfully shifted my MobileMe data to iCloud. Hurrah. I am intrigued by having the documents "up there" and synced to all my devices. My question is this: is it possible to upload a document from my Mac, so I can later work on it on my iPad? If so, how do I do it? Thanks for any hints that you may provide.

Whatever documentation I have seen seems to show how to upload a document using iOS, but what about from my iMac?

iPhone 3GS, iOS 4.3.3

Well, this is horribly crappy and it really is a huge letdown, because I was really looking forward to being able to work on documents in iCloud from my Mac and ditch Dropbox + GoodReader once and for ever.

I will have to keep using them, unless Apple realizes that there is a world beyond iOS and there are many people who create Keynote Documents (in my case) on a Mac because it is easier and more powerful. I am glad I was not using iDisk because if this handicapped iCloud is what is going to replace it, then it can go the way it came for all I care, because I am not going to use it for my files.

Really, Apple, just update iWork for Mac and make it work with iCloud. Right now, it can only update to iWork, and it is not even the iWork that is within the web iCloud interface. It's absolutely preposterous and it makes no sense.

Did it ever occur to you that direct integration with iWork on the Mac was in Apple's plan all along, but the required updates simply weren't ready in time for the launch of iCloud last week?

Delaying the launch of iCloud to wait would've meant delaying the launch of the iPhone 4S, which would no doubt have had a much bigger knock-on effect than just releasing Mac iWork updates whenever they are ready.

I really hope so ! But, nevertheless, why all the fanfare if it is not working on the Mac yet? I really hope you are right 🙂

Also:

Phil: I managed to drag and drop using Firefox. I have not tried it on Safary but it works on mozilla's browser 🙂

Julian, I hope you are right about the required updates for iWork on the Mac not being ready. And I also hope that they are working on it at present. But it wouldn't have hurt if they had clarified that point when they launced iCloud. It certainly would have been appreciated and saved all this confusion and heartache to the iCloud users. Perhaps Apple figured that this situation would hurt their business less than making a public announcement about it at the time of iCloud launch.

But why not communicate to customer this? Actually you start to get tired of all this miscommuncation, and the only timeyou hear something its on the annual mega hyped launches. Its impossible run professional operations and planning with this kind of communication.

Do you have a link to this planning? Or you only know as you work for Apple?

Tommy IDISK is not available on my mac, and accessing me.com only opens the find your iphone app. Ironically mobile me is still accessible from my windows computer but I can not upload anything to it, and for the record my mobile me is a paid up account, that i can not access in any shape or form.

It seems like icloud and ios5 can not distinguish between itunes ID and paid up me.com email, and it makes you set up a new me.com email and then uses that to access everything except Itunes. Its a complete mess.

I still have my data on a windows machine, but Lion and ios5 calendars, contacts email, and bookmarks, are a complete mess.

I hope nobody loses valuable data attempting to migrate everything to Icloud.

Apple should just fix it, or cancel it, its dangerous to valauble data at this stage.

no

The most up-to-date versions of iWork for the Mac do not yet work with iCloud.

It is a kludge that they work with iWork.com (still in beta) but that hasn't been incorporated into the cloud as mobileme was.

Indeed, the only way you can even interface with iCloud and an iWork document from a Mac, requires that you have an iOS device to 1) set it up and 2) to allow Safari to accept uploads from the desktop. However this defeats the purpose of the so called iCloud benefits, as there is no version checking, edit checking and document management.

This needs to be addressed by Apple and soon. This is a serious flaw, as of this time.
