why can't I access my music after updating to iOS 5?

Same problem here. Update went without problem, but I cannot transfer my 900 songs from my computer to the iPhone. I was able to transfer custom ringtones, but music will not sync to the iPhone.

Likewise. My music is there. It's just acting weird. It won't play from my playlists, and when I go to "Songs," it kinda skips all over.
Did you sync again after the initial update and restore process? Did you do the update on the machine containing the iTunes library you normally sync to?
I am having the same issue. All went fine but when I sync it all works but stops the sync before getting to my music. I check the settings and it seems all is correct. It just kicks the sync off before music and videos.
Yes I'm using the same computer where all my music was. Some music does play but what's playing is not the same artwork and song name.
yeah, i only have one computer that I use to sync all my media to my iPhone. It's also showing me that I have 9.7GB of "other" date on my iPhone. HELP.
I had a huge jump in Other Space being utilized. Seems it might be the new OS. Pretty large for an OS if there is not a problem.
What I did and seems to be ok (not finished syn'in) I restored and downloaded iOS 5 again. Currently adding music and my "other" data is at 00.20GB... crossing fingers!
If you have any sync'ing issues... I suggest you restore and re-install iOS 5. It worked for me! And it cleared my 9.7GB "other" data issue!
OK, I might've found a solution for my specific problem. Here's what I did:
So far, the playlist is working, as is the rest of the Music app.
Same problem here, no music, videos or podcasts. I have only ever synced my iphone4 with my macbook pro. This is quite frustrating as I've tried to sync several times and each time it brings up an error saying it can't finish syncing. But doesn't tell me why.
Music shows on ipad and iphone, but won't actually play any.
Thank you for your solution. My music and photo finally came back. But serveal Apps disappered after re-installing iOS 5. 😢
Same problem here. After installing iOS 5, restoring, and syncing... when I clicked on the music icon on my iPad, none of my songs were there. All I saw was "download music from iTunes store." But, on iTunes, when I clicked on my iPad icon (then Music), it showed that all of my songs were synced!
So, this is what worked for me, I rebooted my iPad.
I turned off my iPad by holding down the sleep button for about 5 seconds, then the "Slide to power off" came up, and I powered off my iPad.
Then, I started it up again, and clicked on the music icon on my iPad, and now all of my synced music showed up.
I hope this helps some of you guys out there.
I've had a similar problem, but I seem to have found a work around.
My iPhone 4 wouldn't sync music, and there was, in fact, none on the device. However, when I opened iTunes, it showed the music to be synched.
Here's my solution, tell me if it works for you:
-> in iTunes, check "manually manage music"
-> go to the music categorie and remove all songs
->confirm the delete and click sync, if needed
-> now, either set it back to "sync music" or choose a playlist from which to autofill.
Seems to have worked for me. It's currently updating busily.
Let me know if it worked for you!
