why can't I access my music after updating to iOS 5?
iPhone 4, iOS 5
Same problem here. Update went without problem, but I cannot transfer my 900 songs from my computer to the iPhone. I was able to transfer custom ringtones, but music will not sync to the iPhone.
Had same problem too. Don’t worry, there is an easy solution.
I though that was because i"Manually manage music and videos". All my "Music" is onlyon my iPhone, no one on Library -> Music.
So I simply unchecked "Sync onlyticked songs and videos", and checked it back again and then applied it.
Now, “Music” and “Videos” apps areworking fine.
Good Luck
Not sure why, but if you go into your Sync tools and deselect all your music playlists or songs and then sync, it will clear out the cached memory on your iPad/iPhone. Then go back in and select all that you want synced and then away you go, upload all the songs again, it will "revalidate" them and you are good to go.
This worked for me once... then, after my iPhone went through the automatic Sync process again it lost all the music again. Seems to happen every time. Please tell me that Apple is working on a fix for this!
Altered from original solution from Emily P:
Okay, mine now works here is what I did.
Same issue with my iPhone 4 after the iOS 5 update. Songs will play, but only some playlists work.
I have my library to auto sync -- under "my iPhone" I check "manually manage music and videos" and re-synced. My library is currently syncing to my phone!! 🙂 Hope this works for you too!
solved that issue without restoring my iphone.....
my computer was authorized by a different apple id of mine and the iphone had another apple id running on it.....i simply deauthorized my computer from one id and used the one running on my iphone.....its synced without any problems.....hope it work for you too
Are you saying that if I manage my music manually and don't have all my music that's currently on my iPod stored in iTunes, that if I update to iOS5, I just lose all that music?!
You won't lose the music but you might run into some initial bugs, such as mismatched artwork.
I switched off and switched on again and hey presto my music is there !!!! I always thought that was an IT bluff - but it really worked !!
the same thing is happening to me! except its with my ipod 4th gen. it wont me sync or anything!!! 😢
I am so disgusted and frustrated right now. After ten bucks in gas to get to the Apple Store "Genius" Bar for support and following all their instructions as well as trying everything in this and similar threads, the music on my iphone4 is STILL not working properly. Most songs will play for a few seconds then move on to a different random song, play for a few seconds, move to another song, repeat repeat repeat until I want to throw it across the room and never buy Apple anything ever again.
The Apple Store deleted everything from my phone after running a diagnostic on it. It was basically just like a brand new phone with service still functioning but everything else wiped off. They then sent me to this page which I was to follow at home, using instructions to set up my phone as a new device:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137?viewlocale=en_US
I did everything exactly as instructed and am experiencing the exact same issues. I then tried AGAIN for probably the fifth time, the instructions to sync/unsync remove, etc. music and my music still won't play properly. The music I've downloaded from Amazon has no issues, it's only iStore purchases. The Apple store guy told me my update had a corruption somewhere in the OS update and it was pointless to remove/replace music because I was just reloading the corruption. Yet his assurance that wiping the phone clean then setting it up as a new device then resyncing my music did not work.
Is there a way to revert to a previous OS? I will NEVER NEVER NEVER do an update again until it has been out for a long time and Apple has remedied the issues. I'm sure anyone reading this probably feels the same way right now!
Plus now I have lost all my messages and what a PITB to have to look up contacts, not have previous messages to refer to, etc. All my ringtones have to be re-set. The kazillion apps I bought for my kids and spent hours tediously organizing are now all over the place. Who has time for this?!!!! 😠😢
this is what i just did a minate ago.... go to your music in your iphone... go to a song and slide your figer to the right to delete them.... then go into your purchased songs and re download them to your iphone... my songs play now and dont just sit at 0:00
Worked Great for me. Erased songs then synced them. Thanx
