Can't Receive Texts

unfortantely it looks like i'm not the only one that's been bitten by this inadvertent SMS stoarge cap introduced in iOS 5. i'm ALL EARS if someone figures out a solution. i've tried deleting large amounts of messages and restoring iOS 5 twice with no luck 😟

same issue here. and yeah I think if you set it up as a new phone you lose everything and I'm not willing to do that

Question: I'm in the process of restoring. Is restoring, and restoring as a new phone the same thing?

Also, if it is not the same, is the only difference syncing what you backed up after the restore?

Okay, does anyone know what "everything" means?

Will we be losing all our text histories? I am pretty sure we won't be becasue I've restored as a new phone in the past (and possibly at some point today) and I didn't but now i'm nervous. That's really the only thing I'm not willing to part with.

everything as in: text history, contacts, e-mail accounts, notes, however you personalized it, calender, and other miscellaneous things.. PLZ help Apple!!

In addition to your iPhone saying sms full, does anyone have a problem with iMessge. I go into settings and click on message and it says "waiting for acitvation..." under the iMessage icon. Also, my Receive at location is my email address, my phone number isn't even there

and thats the main reason why Im not doing it. 10 bucks says they now know about the problem and are fixing it. Hopefully soon bc hard reseting my phone each time I send a text is getting old and fast! If anyone finds a new way of fixing this without resotring your phone and starting new, let us all know. Ill keep my ear to the ground if I hear anything.

I restored my phone and I only lost my apps, but I still can't text or receive text. So apparently i didn't restore it correctly, was I not supposed to restore it from the back up when it asked if I wanted to?

Mine was saying "waiting for activation" until i restored it, now i can use iMessage but i just want my regular SMS 😟 ugh why is there no 24 hour support?

aparently you have to start your phone over from scratch after you restore it... but you lose all your stuff... and there is a cap on how many text you can have... or at least thats what I have been reading...but i have had all my texts on here from the very beginning of my first iPhone.... im sure its a glitch in the programing...

I am having the same problem as expressed in this thread. I cannot currently receive any sms (text) messaging. Currently, iOS 5 does not work. I have restored from scratch twice and the issue still remains. Is there a way to downgrade to iOS 4?

This is a critical issue. SMS messaging is the most used feature on my iPhone. I have many in-depth messages that I revert to oftenm both personally and professionally. It would be very bad to remove/delete them. I would hate to have to ditch the iPhone for a Samsung, but I don't know what else to do at this point.

The error reads: "Your SMS mailbox is full. New messages cannot be received until you delete some messages."

If someone locates the cure for this issue soon, please tag me in the post.

Would love to be tagged in this as well. Just realized no one has txtd me all day, and "***". Then I recalled the message I had gotten... Long of short of it, I am NOT going to be restoring to new phone, so they better hurry up and fix this!

For any other crazies out there who can't bear to part with their old texts, I found this program online: http://mobilesyncbrowser.com/manual/

It looks like it works. I downloaded the free trial and was able to export... But only a few old texts... It put them in plain text but converted over to my knockoff Excel program, where they can be sorted and whatnot.

But, before I pay the $20 for the full version, I'm going to wait and see if another solution pops up.

I've got text conversations back through 2007. and according to the program I've got 78,788 texts. haha and that was after clearing out SOME old conversations I didnt feel I needed anymore.

Yes i also have the iPhone 3gs. Another problem im having is when sending an iMessage, the iphone user im sending it to gets it from my email address, it doesn't say its actually from me. Like example it'll say "joe@gmail.com" and then the txt message
