ios5 upgrade 'could not activate iphone'

Look in the hosts file on your computer. If any lines contain gs.apple.com delete them and reboot your computer.

The hosts file can be found in /etc/hosts on a Mac, or c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts on Windows.

Couldnt find any.

Well actually that's good. Because the only way those lines could get into the hosts file is if the computer was used to jailbreak or hack some iDevice at some time in the past.

Next stop is your antivirus and firewall. They may be blocking the ports that Apple needs to reach the activation servers. Try disabling them. Your router could block the ports or the app's access to them also.

the thing is...my other iphone 3gs was successfully updated to ios5 using the same computer...

I just don't what to do, its getting annoying now. I have no phone.
