I had a similar problem when i updated to iOS 5, but it only deleted my pictures. What you need to do is restore your iPhone to the last backup and you do this by right clicking on your iPhone under Devices in iTunes. It should give you the option to restore backups and you will not have to update iOS 5 again. I hope this helps.

No it actually didnt :/ I appreciate the effort though.

It's weird this has happened before and there was a way that I was able to get all of my stuff back from a certain screen that had shown about four previous backup files...and now I have no idea what is wrong with this thing. It's really frusterating. lol😕

This happened to me too. I fixed it by going into my text messeges and clicking on one of the ppl I knew was in my contacts then scrolling to the top and there was a button that said Contacts in the upper right. I clicked on it and then just eddid one of the fields saved and exited... All my contact were back magically.... hope this helps anyone with the same problem.

When I updated my ipad one, it deleted all my data including purchased apps, songs, pictures and books. Trying the restore button, but all it wants to do is restore to factory default instead of letting me pick a restore from a certain backup. Very frustrating. My past update has been so smooth that I actually trusted apple too much :+(

I made sure to hit the sync button before the update, but after update sync button dit not recover any of my data.

yerrey... i just finished updating OS5 and restored from iTUNES. did you restored by iTUNES? all my photos, contact, message, songs (799) and notes are there except all apps since my PC has no more room for all my apps back up 🙂. so i have to load them again one by one duh! 😟

i'm in china BTW and using iPHONE4 GSM.

One more thing it is really recommended that you download first the update and then install in ur phone.

I had the same thing happen but went to the Telus store....fuming mad! They googled the problem and somehow or other got my Iphone "out of its coma" ....apparently everyone is trying to download the new OS and it's caused havoc. I was told to wait a day or two...ALL THAT FOR NOTHING...so hopefully, you all will be able to get your stuff back, because mine also said...had to restore AFTER the download, and then it said it COULDN'T RESTORE OR RESET TO FACTORY SETTINGS...go to your local Telus store, and complain...if mine could get my Iphone back to where it was, then you all should be able to get the same thing. I only had the picture of the Itunes plug on mine...couldn't get anything...TOTALLY NONFUNCTIONAL! Good luck. (I am on my THIRD Iphone 3GS....so much trouble with first two, and even this one is a problem.)
