No iCloud on Snow Leopard? THIS IS A JOKE, APPLE!

Right now I'm thinking about leaving Apple products behind for good. So I can't use iCloud on Snow Leopard (which is not that old)? Meaning my syncing (contacts, bookmarks, calendars etc.) will just stop when they shut down MobileMe in 2012?

GREAT WAY TO DEAL WITH YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS, APPLE!

I can't update to Lion (various reasons). So now what? Dump the crap Macbook+iMac+iPhone in the toilet? Should be a great idea!

VERY PROFESSIONAL, CONGRATULATIONS!

Hi,

But thats IT..I'm fed up with the "Buy This" & then you need That" & by the way XX will not work with such&such...

Somehow the magic has gone...Now it's ALL -> it might just work"" pay pay pay...😟

Alternatives ~ Oh Yes there Are..

Why couldn't they get that to work under Mobile Me and let us keep our iDisks???

They could have but I suppose it comes down to network load. They were charging $99 per year for MobileMe which would tend to limit the user base. iCloud is free to anyone with a Mac running Lion or an iOS 5 device, allowing you to bounce your iTunes files around with gleeful abandon, which will increase the network load substantially. Cutting out iDisk, websites and remote access to Time Capsules reduces network load to compensate for the increase in the user base.

Which goes back to my first ***** fest a few years ago...why doesn't the iPhone have the same storage that my old FIREWIRE ipod does..80GB..and we are talking 2004!!! (or at least allow an external portable drive to be attached to it) Which would give me enough space for all my music...a couple of movies and a decent backup of my workfiles..then I wouldn't need friggin cloud service because I would have ALL MY S H I T with me when I'm not home.

Apple...they just don't get it....anymore!

Count me in as someone who over-reacted to the news about iCloud not working on SL! 2 months ago - I so desperately wanted Apple to make iCloud work with SL like many previous others have mentioned on this post, for many of the obvious reasons. But I decided to 'check out' the 'alternatives'! And guess what? I think their great! (No wonder why their dumping idisk- it stinks compared to whats out there!)

There's no way in **** I'm buying a new computer just to get Lion. SL is still a solid, top-notch OS - even on my Core Duo iMac (1st gen intel) - it effin' rocks!

People - don't over-react. There is no need to upgrade. If you are too cheap (like me) to go out and buy the latest iPhone/iPad/iMac, then you will do just fine sitting back, uprading your MM account to iCloud on a Windows 7 machine (sometime before the 1st day of summer 12'), then hacking your friendly Mac to accomodate the new changes. Sure, iWeb, Gallery, and iDisk's days are numbered, but life will go on, and you can keep your legacy hardware (until it shorts), and use the better alternatives that are out there!

In short - come the day June 30, 2012 - if still no iCloud for SL? Yawn.

I would like to see a SUB Community come from Apple (like we did in the mid 90s) that kept up aspects of the Operating Systems and that community kept apple alive during it's darkest weakest days.

I can feel and see the lockdown of apps and access to its OS. Apple moving toward only allowing PER USER apps and only by their approval is an obvious turn for the worst...and becoming the reason why 1984..will eventually become 1984

I Propose that this community continue to provide support for Snow Leopard ...which will probably be the last REAL OPEN OS pre App Store, pre iOS5, pre iCloud..and have our OWN back support keeping the BEST and OPEN OS alive.

It's time to OCCUPY your OS!

You are in violation of Apple Licensing running Snow Leopard in VM.

Opinion stated as fact.

As you know full well, this issue is ambiguous at best.

The hosts quickly remove posts advocating illegal behaviour from these forums, and yet there are countless threads over the last few months that mention this that have not been removed...

So how about not bullying others with your own personal interpretations, eh?

Thanks for link, Roger.

One point I don't think has been raised:

When we (a small business of two people) buy a new Mac it becomes the main work-horse and the older Macs are used for less demanding work, and the oldest of all is for secretarial work only. I should think some other users do the same.

So it is precisely the *oldest* Mac that needs compatability with the cloud!!

Not ambiguous to me

Csound -

I appreciate your knowledge on Mac matters, but to you and others: Please don't argue!! We should be positive on this website.

And for others who have joined the discussion late here are some issues that have been discussed previously:

iCloud is only available on Mac OSX 'Lion' causing two majors problems:

1. Users of old Macs up to and including Intel 'Core Duo' can't use Lion.

2. Users who need 'Rosetta' can't use Lion.

If this is a problem please complain here:
