No iCloud on Snow Leopard? THIS IS A JOKE, APPLE!

Right now I'm thinking about leaving Apple products behind for good. So I can't use iCloud on Snow Leopard (which is not that old)? Meaning my syncing (contacts, bookmarks, calendars etc.) will just stop when they shut down MobileMe in 2012?

GREAT WAY TO DEAL WITH YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS, APPLE!

I can't update to Lion (various reasons). So now what? Dump the crap Macbook+iMac+iPhone in the toilet? Should be a great idea!

VERY PROFESSIONAL, CONGRATULATIONS!

I just left the following feedback on the "iCloud feedback" form:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------------------------------------

I find it very disappointing that Apple is not supporting Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) for iCloud, and yet, a Microsoft Vista user can use iCloud with no problem. Microsoft Vista was released in January 2007, well over 4 years ago, whereas Apple's Snow Leopard was released just over 2 years ago, in August of 2009. It is baffling and, quite frankly, insulting, that Microsoft users are being accommodated better than your own Apple customers!!

Please, do the right thing and extend iCloud compatibility to Snow Leopard users.

I hope that, if enough of us leave similar feedback, maybe we'll get satisfaction.

Also, it looks as though Apple, at one point, intended to support Snow Leopard, if this engadget rumor is any indication:

Oh well...I guess we have to wait and see!!

Just a brain wave.... Buy windows7 machine and you don't have to worry about Snow Leopard.(from now on you can relax Apple will support you longer then its own operating systems)

Second wave: Could we fake it?: use parallel system on your Snow Leopard to run Windows to access iCloud?

Hmmm or wait for Windows 8 to swap to serious computing...

Joke: How to use MacBook Pro 2.8Ghz i7 8gb as a iPad. Spend £20 on Lion Vista

Sorry Apple I love you but you should listen please

As I writed elsewhere on that forum, I REALLY hope that Apple will not let SL users out of iCloud. And it's not for te $29: I'll be happy to pay the same for that fantomatic 10.6.9 version, too

...but updating to Lion could be too dangerous for compatibility of my entire work system (software & hardware, absolutely NOT so old)...

Thanks

Fabrizio

PS: sorry for my poor english

PS 2: @woodmeister50, thanks for your suggestion but... wow... "convert my mac into a win7 machine"..... sounds soooooo sad to me... 😢 😉

Will it still be available through the Mail app in some way? Or do I have to use the web interface on my Mac, for mail on icloud.com?

barthold ~ I could be wrong, but my interpretation of the Apple doc below is that Snow Leopard's Mail app could still access email in iCloud. In Lion, presumably Mail's configuration is automatically set up via System Preferences > iCloud. In Snow Leopard, any required re-configuration would need to be done manually via the Mail app itself, i.e. Mail menu > Preferences... > Accounts. ...Perhaps someone here can confirm the above from actual experience.

Looking at this from a business perspective: Apple are a profit-making company, and their main revenue stream is hardware, the operating system is shipped free with their machines, and upgrades are extremely cheap. Therefore, I don't really find it at all surprising that they encourage their users to upgrade their hardware in order to enjoy their latest software features.

So, from Apple's perspective (and more importantly, their shareholders' perspectives), the loyal customers are the ones that keep up with the latest hardware in order to keep up with the software, rather than those that stick with old & soon-to-be-unsupported machinery.

Well here is my complaint that I sent in.

I just want to say that I agree with the many other people who are upset that (as far as we know) Snow Leopard will NOT be supporting iCloud.

Personally, I don't find Lion to be that great of an update and I'd rather NOT upgrade my Macbook Pro. Secondly, I CAN'T run Lion on my iMac because it is not 64-bit. Which by the way, the only reason I can find that 32-bit Intel Macs cannot run Lion is for the simple bragging rights of claiming "Totally 64 bit".

If you boot Lion into 32 bit mode it runs just fine on my early 2006 iMac Intel Core Duo. However, this doesn't really provide a good user experience because the first time I update the OS the computer wouldn't boot.

I understand that there is a rumor that an update to Snow Leopard will enable iCloud support. I hope this is true. I also hope that it won't be "limited support" - meaning that there is no reason Photo Stream shouldn't work with iPhoto 9.2 as I was able to update to that version.

I think it's pretty lousy service to force your loyal customers into this predicament of being forced to buy new machines unnecessarily.

You offer Windows users a better deal. Shame on you.

Do the right thing and provide iCloud support in 10.6.9

This is your opinnion, and i would say that i agree to some of it. But. Apple inc are still creating their products for a business, and the bigger they get, the less personal they get, by default it'd be the same with a successful business man. im sure they'll make a fix for this by 2012 and if not, they're just moving on. but for god's sake dont get WINDOWS!!! of all the OS' available. get Ubuntu Linux if you want to change... but yes, it is gay of apple. but if you have an ios 5 device it'll be fine for you...
