No iCloud on Snow Leopard? THIS IS A JOKE, APPLE!

Right now I'm thinking about leaving Apple products behind for good. So I can't use iCloud on Snow Leopard (which is not that old)? Meaning my syncing (contacts, bookmarks, calendars etc.) will just stop when they shut down MobileMe in 2012?

GREAT WAY TO DEAL WITH YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS, APPLE!

I can't update to Lion (various reasons). So now what? Dump the crap Macbook+iMac+iPhone in the toilet? Should be a great idea!

VERY PROFESSIONAL, CONGRATULATIONS!

You can get its mail and sync the calender but that's it.

And with a little work you can have contacts as well, and that's all I need.

Wasted over an hour trying to get contacts to sync but never actually got it to work and iCal seems to have stopped syncing as well. At best it is an unsupported hack that will most likely break in the near future.

Anyway there was a lot more to MobileMe than mail, iCal and address book.

Glad that you are overjoyed with iCloud but many people aren't and your constant rants about it are condescending and useless to this discussion.

While several people have posted proposed methods, no-one that I've seen has reported actually getting it to work; so if you do, please post the method in detail for everyone's benefit.

For contacts you'll need a 3rd party helper, SourgeForces DavMail will make the connection, I have also been using eMClient in Windows and have had some luck translating its server settings (arrived at by auto setup) and putting them in otherwise unsupported but WebDav compliant clients.

It's covered in some earlier posts.

Here is the server address i am using for iCloud contact access via DavMail in OSX and eMClient in Windows

icloud for snow leopard does work if you do the following:

Go to iCal preferences.

Set up new account.

Account Type: CalDAV

User Name: Your MobileMe / iCloud email address

Password: Your password for above

Server Address: p06-caldav.icloud.com

By changing from Mobile Me to "I-cloud" and Lion OS X 10.7 on one of my machines, must I now change to OS X 10.7 and "I-cloud" on ALL my machines? Currently one of my "Snow leopard" machines now says "Syncing disabled." Moreover it says (incorrectly) that the machine has never been synced. How can I return to syncing my files using dot-Mac, Mobile Me, I-cloud (or whatever its name is)? Thanks.

Not one to be inflammatory, and understanding that this is about business after all....

But, in behalf the the numerous users who are now relegated to Snow Leopard to the end-of-life of their previous generation Intel Macs -- we would very much appreciate it if Apple would extend icloud support to us.

It doesn't make much sense to use it on our iphones and ipads -- or even on our newer Macs because it leaves our older systems disconnected. I have been using Dropbox on all of the platforms and I am pretty satisfied with it. However, the licensed media integration for icloud makes it a real winner.

Help us out on this Apple.

Your account has been moved from MM to iCloud (when you changed on one of your machines you changed it on all)

You can not revert to Mobile Me I'm afraid

Threatening to go back to Windows is becoming more common on this forum lately, actually doing it might cause Apple to take notice, talking about it ...... maybe not.

If you read my comments carefully you will note that I was referring to Windows 8, which will not be released until sometime next year. Acting on it at this point is simply not possible, but it is a future option if Apple doesn't get Lion's problems ironed out by the time Windows 8 is released.

You can use Win 7 now, the problem is Outlook, iCloud compatility with Outlook is poor, Vista, 7 or 8 don't change that

I wouldn't buy Windows 7 now with Windows 8 coming out next year and Outlook is irrelevant, it's not something I would ever use. I'll just accept that you will probably never understand my perspective on Apple's change in direction with iCloud and Lion.

Actually under Windows you have to use it if you want sync with iCloud, but it does seem to work well.

Outlook is the only compatible Windows client for iCloud, how can it be irrelevant?

I guess you meant 'snow leopard' in that last line. 😉

In any case, two questions:

1. What makes you so sure?

and

2. Isn't it possible that the strength of feeling about it not being available as evidenced by the length of this (and other) thread(s) might be a factor in Apple's decision?
