Hi there. I had the same missing text problem (they synced as far as last March, but nothing more recent than that). I stumbled accross this post in trying to fix it, but then found a way myself. Sorry if this has already been solved and is old news, but I only read the first couple pages of the post. Anyway, my solution...

I realsied that I had only been backing up to iCloud, so instead, I backed up my old iPhone 3GS to my computer (iTunes - Back up to This Computer).

I then wiped the contents of my new iPhone 5 (Settings, General, Reset - Erase all content and settings) which I had already failed to sync texts to, and started again.

Now when I connected to iTunes to finish setting up the phone, I chose to restore the settings from my last backup of my old phone and tadaa! All 100% texts, photos, apps in the right place etc...

Hope this helps.

Hi Liora1993,

The first thing we should check is how much space is available on your iPhone. In iOS5, you can do this from the Settings app by tapping General and then Usage. Are you close to running out of disk space?

I had talked to a lot of people during the reign of iOS5 and iOS6 about texts randomly being wiped, but never emails and photos. Were all of your photos deleted, or just a few?

I am freaking out, I went to read a text message from a contact and realized there weren't any old text!! I haven't deleted any recently. When I try to sync my phone to iTunes I get an error message saying sync services aren't working. So please tell me there is a way other than iTunes or icloud to get these back. I need these for legal proof. Someone help please!!!

You can recover deleted text messages from iPhone by following 3 ways.

1. Restore the deleted SMS from iCloud if you have done some backups before.

2. Extract everything from an iTunes Backup if you have synced text messages to iTunes before.

For above methods, you can follow the official tutorial for more details:

Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support

3. If you do not have any backup files and haven't overwritten data, text messages may still stored in a database format. There is still a chance to recover them by some third-party tool by directly scan. You can google for it.
