Call the Apple customer service and explain whats happened
ohh!! when I open express lane, to start a repair on one of my apple products, My iPhone is showing the same serial number as the replacement phone I got saturday. Yesterday it was showing the number of one of my previous phones... ya think this means it'll be safe for me to try updating again? My local (45 minutes away) apple store has genius bar appointments open for tomorrow
No jailbreaking here so that isn't the issue. Upgraded a 3GS to 4, that was OK. Upgraded to iOS 5 - that bricked it. Brought to Apple - they replaced it. Brought it home, tried again - bricked. Complete failure on Apple to not provide a solution or response one week after launch. Not 'Apple-like' at all.
If you read back over this thread, you will see that a solution for this issue has been found. You need to call Apple and have them update your phone's serial number and IMEI number in your account. Then your restore will work again.
I've just bought a secondhand unlocked iPhone 4, restored and updated to IOS 5 and same issue here in Australia. I have restored it 3 times to no avail and have no idea where to go from here.
Should I try another microsim? Anything else you can think of that I might not have tried? If I need Apple help will the warranty that's left on the phone apply to me now that I own the phone?
Why is Apple requiring me to have a SIM card? I've been using my iPhone 3gs for 10 months as an iPod touch with no SIM card. No problem until the upgrade to IOS5 where it's bricked demanding a SIM card. W.T.F?

hi,
Do I need to call my carrier, too ? or is Apple just enough ?
Thanks
SOLUTION - READ THE ENTIRE POST!
1. Call Apple customer support. (NOT YOUR CARRIER).
2. State your phone has a "Sim Not Supported issue.
3. Once you talk to an actual person tell them there is a "profile activation issue" with your account.
If they ask you to pay tell them this is an exception since this is a profile issue.
(YOUR WARRANTY STATUS DOES NOT MATTER).
4. They will edit your device profile and your phone will work in itunes within 24-48 hours.
(THE PROFILE IS ON APPLE'S SERVERS, ONLY APPLE CAN MODIFY THEM!)
5. DONE. HIT LIKE!
It doesn't matter if your device is an original or a replacement this is a solution for all "Sim Not Supported" errors. If you don't understand this guide, you should enroll in a local elementary school to cover some serious educational gaps.
Called Apple.. talked to a senior advisor.. assured that my account profile matched the new phone..
installed the update
phone is bricked again..
I have the senior advisors direct phone number, but all I get is her voicemail...
so I'll try calling support again..
hello..
if my iPhone is unlocked, by a UK carrier, this Solution will work to??
Because i'm now in Germany and can't go to UK.
Someone here had this problem with unlocked phones and solve the problem just calling Apple.???
Please someone answer...
Thank you..
Hey everyone who is having this problem:
I can confirm from the "solution" above that having Apple change your serial number in their system will make it work. I have been through several bricked iPhones from this terrible upgrade experience to iOS 5 (and before) and finally talking with the Sr. Advisor helped. They have changed my profile and when I upgraded today it worked.
Had nothing to do with AT&T (in U.S.) and IMEI because all of that checked out fine earlier when it still didn't work. It is an issue in Apple's databases, and they have to fix it by filling out some form to correct your number and send it to another department (some kind of magic I guess).
Anyway good luck to those with this problem and hopefully you all will get your issue solved as well.
Mine was supposedly an unlock issue. Carrier confirmed phone was unlocked but unlock process may have not been completed properly by previous owner. This seems strange since my sim card worked until IOS 5 upgrade and previous owner had no trouble. Apple also confirmed that on their end that it seemed the unlock had not been completed and if trying the carrier's sim card didn't work to call them back as this is a known issue and they want to document how many people are having the problem.
I used another sim and synced to iTunes, stuck mine in and it works. I got no message about the phone being unlocked though. Hopefully this is the end of it.
hello..
i always thought that my iPhone was official unlocked... since I bought it always did all updates with iTunes and it work with all networks... e never used non-official software like jailbreak...
But now i realize that my iPhone Baseband is 6.15.??? is this possible.. the carrier that sold me the iPhone, trick me and my iPhone is not really OFFICIAL UNLOCKED...???
Thanks for some answer...
P.S.- I only notice that after update to iOS 5... before that i never check that...
