Wi-Fi Sync not working in iOS 5

I can't seem to sync my iPad wirelessly with iOS 5. I get the message "Sync will resume when <my machine> is available" I'm plugged into a power source with iTunes running, but no luck . Any ideas?

Tried everything and finally figured it out. Go to Control Panel>System and Security>Windows Firewall>Advanced Settings>Inbound Rules. Make sure all Bonjour Services and SyncServers are Green(Enabled) and also that they have both Private and Domain checked(double click, then go to advanced). Restart the computer and start iTunes, plug in the phone to power and it will sync.

I've tried everything and nothing works consistantly, I have been able to get it to work now and then by trying combinations of all the tips but by sheer luck, sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't but when I get it to work, it will work untill something is changed on my ipad, then it is back to square 1 trying everything again until it works again. wifi sync just is not reliable and it will drive you nuts. Stick to USB.

I have been having the same problem making my IPod touch wirelessly sync to ITunes on my PC, and I found an answer that worked for me.

I turned off the Vipre firewall, and after a short delay, wireless sync began working. So, I had to figure out why and how to configure the firewall to not block something. There are lots of other people suggesting firewall answers, but none of them worked. For me the answer was not just opening some ports, as was suggested.

While watching the firewall logs, between different configurations, I finally knew what I had to do, and eventually found the right configuration. Now I get wireless synching with the firewall fully enabled.

What worked was to add an exception to the firewall rules for the program,
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe".
This means when the firewall notices a packet coming for that application (the one used to wirelessly sync with IOS devices) it allows it.

Hope this is a useful suggestion for the other folks having this issue.

Two suggestions, Stanian:

1. Restart ITunes again. When I do that, the connectivity to my IOS device is re-established and the sync happens..

2. If it still does not work, then determine if the issue is still a firewall issue, and turn off your firewall temporarily. Does the syncing now occur? If not, than your problem must be a different one. If yes, then you have to look at the firewall's logs to determine what is blocked by the firewall.

As I might of mentioned it is random thing that seem to fix it for me or might just be coincidence, again this morning my ipad does not appear in the Devices side bar. The one thing that I now seem to have confirmed is that if I re start the Apple Mobile Device service the wireless syncing works again but only till I re boot.

You will also want to make sure your wireless network has network sharing allowed.

These are setting descriptions in my Netgear dualband wireless router.........

"Enable Wireless Isolation

If checked, the wireless client under this SSID can only access internet and it can‘t access other wireless clients even under the same SSID, Ethernet clients or this device. Other clients can‘t access the wireless client, either"

And if you are using a Guest network

"Allow Guest to access MY Local Network

If Unchecked, any user connects to this SSID can only access internet directly and other clients in the same SSID network. All clients in this SSID are not allowed to access router web GUI, clients of other SSIDs, Ethernet network and any other service of this Wireless Router.
If Checked, any user who connects to this SSID can access not only internet but also local networks of this wireless router like users in primary SSID.

My first sync failed because I didn't set the checkbox in itunes that says "Sync over WiFi"

Several have said that this was their problem with mobile device service - stopping. Worth a try?

Apple Mobile Device Service has stopped working. Vista SP2, iTunes 10.5

Just a shot in the dark, but have you downloaded any program from Megaupload, like MegaKey? If so then that is your problem. I had been having the exact same problem for the past 2 weeks. I couldn't figure out what it was and tried everything that you have.. Then was on a board and someone mentioned Megakey. Having tried everything else, I uninstalled the program and reinstalled the current ITunes and AMDS. My Ipad and Iphone connected with no problem.

"Thank You soo much that solved the problem. I uninstalled megakey and boom it was fixed. Thanks a lot!!!"
