iCloud MobileMe IMAP rejected password

Greetings,

After moving my MobileMe account to iCloud, I am now getting an error message in mail that states:

The MobileMe IMAP server “p99-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “xxxxxxx”

It keeps popping up a window asking me to enter my me.com password, but won't accept my password.

I googled this error and see a bunch of threads here and other places about problems with IMAP passwords and this same error message back in 2008/2009. But I've never seen this error before, and since it happed just after the transition to iCloud, I suspect it is realted.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I migrated to iCloud today and was able to access my email intially on my MacBookPro, the iCloud server and my iPhone 4. But suddenly couldn't access my mac.com email (though I could still send) from my MacBookPro.

I did what Jon140 says above about logging out of iCloud in System Preferences (it deleted my iCloud mail account on my MacBookPro in the process) and then logged back in. I went back into mail and recreated the iCloud email account (it did not happen automatically) and now everything works fine-sending and receiving.

One note the password system used by the iCloud is now "Apple Token" not password as it had been in the MobileMe system.

I did the following and it started working again:

1) Right-clicked (control-clicked) on my .Mac/iCloud email account in Mail and chose "Export Mailbox..." to save it just in case.

2) Selected Mail...Preferences... in the menu and selected the iCloud account.

3) Clicked on the "-" (minus) button below the account list to remove the account and confirmed that I wanted to.

4) Clicked on the "+" (plus) button below the account list and entered my iCloud password.

5) Unchecked the boxes about contacts and calendars (those seemed to be working).

6) When I proceeded from there, the account came right back and all my emails downloaded back from the server.

All is good now.

10 Year Mobile Me user. Migrated to Lion and thus to iCloud.com - For numerous personal reasons, Lion isn't my OS of choice and I reverted back to Snow Leopard.

At first a little bit of MobileMe mail problems, but through several fora was able to get the correct mail settings.

Now today, Februari 20th 2012 - Family Day in Canada - my 10 year old Mobile Me on Snow Leopard account was rejecting passwords and they are 100% correct. So guess somewhere at Apple switches were flicked.

This page below helped me out and with using the recommended settings all is working 100% correct, no more "moved to icloud messages"

Had the same issues on Mac, iPhone was working yesterday but I have noticed my inbox kept reappearing despite deleting the messages. iCloud mail was working for couple of months and now I've been having the same imap server not responding message for over two weeks now.

Rang tech support and its a technical error that is being worked on, despite the online status claiming <1 of users are affected.
