iCloud MobileMe IMAP rejected password

Greetings,

After moving my MobileMe account to iCloud, I am now getting an error message in mail that states:

The MobileMe IMAP server “p99-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “xxxxxxx”

It keeps popping up a window asking me to enter my me.com password, but won't accept my password.

I googled this error and see a bunch of threads here and other places about problems with IMAP passwords and this same error message back in 2008/2009. But I've never seen this error before, and since it happed just after the transition to iCloud, I suspect it is realted.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

This morning I deleted the iCloud mail acount on my iMac, then recreated it. Now it seems to work just fine. The only thing that's different is that in the authentication field on the advanced setting page where it used to say "Apple Token", that option is no longer available, so I entered "password". Anyway, for what it's worth, iCloud mail now seems to be working on my iMac.

I was having the same issue. I went into System Prefs, iCloud, and discovered that 'Mail & Notes' was not checked. I checked that, and it created a NEW inbox and account in Apple's Mail.app. It is literally rebuilding the entire thing from the server but seems to be working. I'm assuming I will just delete my old MobileMe account then when it's finished. I'm not sure that is how the transition was intended to happen, but it seems to have solved my issue.

Here we go again. It looked as though the problems with iCloud mail were finally resolved. All of my mail accounts had been working normally since Friday. Now this afternoon, I'm back to the same place, with my password being rejected, and unable to access iCloud mail. Hope Apple gets this sorted out soon. It's getting to be rather tedious.

ISSUE RESLOVED - well for me any ways.

It would seem that there have been a lot of us that are having problems retrieving our emails after porting our accounts from Mobile Me to the iCloud.

It wasn't until I set up my daughters account on the iCloud that I realised that passwords MUST include at least one character in UPPER CASE. So I changed my password accordingly and all the issues have disappeared. I am able to receive and send emails as before.

Hope this sorts out your problems too.

That actually isn't true.

I suspect the process of changing your password at all, or just Apple finally getting their servers sorted fixed the issue.

This also worked for me, and it seems other on the internet.

Password requirements help. Maybe not be all and end all, but since the original server issues, this helped me reset and get up and running. No issues now, and I'm pretty sure my old password didnt' meet these requirements.

Now I've just got to get around the interrupted sync/restore issue I keep having :S

Am hating iCloud - promise of great things - very poor delivery. Can log into the Cloud website on my iMac and see where my iphone is (next to me) and what I've got planned in my calendar (very little sadly) but won't let me look at mail. The imac and iphone won't have anything to do with the @me.com mail either, just repeatedly tell me that my password in wrong

Just got off phone with Apple support. Got the issue resolved. Will post everything we did, but ultimately, I think it was just changing the password in AppleID.

- Went to appleid.apple.com

- Manage your account

- Password and Security

- Change Password

- Save changes

Then, went to system preferences, logged out of icloud. (It'll ask you if you want to keep contacts, (I did), and delete docs, etc (I did that as well)

Go into mail, and delete the account

Close Mail

Go back into system preferences, and log back into iCloud.

It should recreate the account in mail when you log in.

Mail works!!

FWIW, my original password has caps, numbers, length was fine, etc. I had a special character, though...

Maybe, but this says otherwise:
