The iCloud IMAP server “p99-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user XXXX

p99-imap.mail.me.com is not editable in my Mail.com configuration. Is this just a temporary glitch?

I was having issues with iCal - went to the boards here, and figured to clear the cache in Library. I went ahead and did the same for Mail just to see if this fixed the issue - and it did. For the time being it has not had any issues with asking for password once I put in the password and checked the box for adding it to keychain. Hopefully this sticks. It is definitely something I always have to do with most issues with my Mac - or anything Mac related - clean out the caches lol.

Also, could not find the library, then went to Finder > Go, pressed Option and was able to see it pop up there. I am sure all of you already knew this, but it took me awhile to find out.

I am getting the same most of the time, which is RELLY annoying, I don't remember MobileMe asking me for such a thing EVER!!! I keep putting my password but it keeps giving this pop-up, then suddenly it works!

but I get a pop up at the same time on my iPhone if I try to check my e-mail on there "Cannot Get Mail" and then to check if my username or password are correct!!

so what's the deal?? 😟

This just worked for me too so thank you 🙂

I also tried changing my password because it needed to meet the new critieria of 1 number, 1 capital etc etc but that didn't help. Changing the authentication from token to password also didn't work but deleting the me.com account in mac mail>preferences and making a new one seems to have worked.

I don't really know why I need a me.com email address - am planning not to use it. Also, having quite a bit of difficulty getting my head around where iCloud fits with gmail which I've been contentedly using across my devices (mac, iphone 3G and iPad) since I got them. Anyway I guess that's a whole other topic....

Here's what resolved the problem for me (on my Mac):

1. Delete iCloud account in System Preferences → Mail, Contacts & Calendars

2. Re-add account from the iCloud preference pane

At this point, everything but Mail & Notes was working. I could not add my Mail account and it no longer appeared in the Mail app.

3. In Mail go to Preferences... → Accounts and click the + button to add a new account. Automatically adding the account failed.

4. Based on this article from Apple Support, specified the mail server as imap.mail.me.com (as opposed to pXX-imap.mail.me.com). The rest of the settings were filled out automatically, and I was now up and running.

5. Check to make sure the rest of the settings match the settings listed in the support article.

Hope this helps someone.

FWIW this is what I did:

  • Upgraded to OS X 10.7.2 and IOS 5 on all appropriate devices.
  • System prefs> Logged out of MobileMe.
  • System Prefs> Logged into iCloud and checked relevant services.
  • Under Mail> Prefs> Accounts> Account Info: In the box above password- changed 'username' to 'username@mac.com'. Quit and re-open.

I know you may have tried all the above, but chucking in my own 2 ¢. I was going mental on Friday like so many others.

ISSUE RESLOVED - well for me any ways.

It would seem that there have been a lot of us that are having problems retrieving our emails after porting our accounts from Mobile Me to the iCloud.

It wasn't until I set up my daughters account on the iCloud that I realised that passwords MUST include at least one character in UPPER CASE. So I changed my password accordingly and all the issues have disappeared. I am able to receive and send emails as before.

Hope this sorts out your problems too.
