The iCloud IMAP server “p99-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user XXXX
p99-imap.mail.me.com is not editable in my Mail.com configuration. Is this just a temporary glitch?

TADA!!!
Checking the Mail & Notes worked for me as well as going into Mail and resetting my password. Thank
you for posting your experience.

I had the same problem, but found the solution at http://www.techyv.com/questions/icloudmobileme-mail-issue-here-please
"This issue might be due to SSL being unchecked. Ticking SSL can resolve the issue and fix. This can be done by navigating to Preferences >> Accounts >> iCloud >> Advanced. Port should be changed to 993 and SSL box should be checked. Save the settings and restart'.
So I did, and it worked! The incoming mail server is still “p99-imap.mail.me.com" and is still greyed out, but the mail flows freely!🙂😁
SSL has always been a requirement, you must have missed that initially.
It may have been a requirement all along, but if so it's obvious that the conversion to iCloud and/or update to Lion has caused the SSL to become unchecked for many, considering that so many former MobileMe users have experienced the same problem.
I used a blank password first time, and then edited it.
It was not obvoius, but it was for the local datafile, not access to the iCloud server per-see..
Just something i learned. 😎
