The iCloud IMAP server “p99-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user XXXX
p99-imap.mail.me.com is not editable in my Mail.com configuration. Is this just a temporary glitch?

The correct addresses for iCloud email servers are: incoming. imap.mail.me.com, substitute smtp for imap on the outgoing server, the numbers are not needed.
Oh goody. So how do you change that when it's greyed out?
Please don't suggest deleting the account and starting again. I did that just last week and followed your advice to set a new password with a capital and numbers in it. Since then mail has been going missing. Normally into Junk on the Apple servers before it even gets to me! 😐
You will have to leave things as they are if you do not wish to remove and replace the account then.
Yeah but I did. Last week. I swallowed the bitter pill, took your advice and now you're saying I have to do it again right? Just to change server settings?
Do you work for Apple or are you a hobbyist?
The advice I offer comes straight from Apple, you coud have searched for yourself and found out. ******** at me won't help, my advice for you is to use others on this site, or Google to find out what you you want to know, this messenger is out of here.

I'm not having a pop at you mate. I just find it unbelievable that this 'Apple advice' chops and changes on an almost daily basis and like lemmings we are expected to devote the time to making their software/server work properly.
This smacks of MobileMe all over again. Launched before it was ready, just like iCloud appears to be.

No it doesn't, but it seems to be getting absorbed by the users in small, ocassionally sequential pieces.
The password requirements and the servers were published day one, but few read them.

That may be true. But in reality Apple configures it automatically when you set up an Mail and iCloud using your Apple ID. The fact that I can't now change it is testament to that.

If you let Apple configure automatically you are right,so CHOOSE the manual setup instead !!!!!!!!!

Well that clearly illustrates my point about fiddling to get this stuff working properly. Apple should fix it in the software. If those requirements have been in existence since day one as you suggest, surely it isn't too much to ask Apple to correct it in a subsequent software update?
There are many users who wouldn't dream of going under the hood to tinker with settings and that is one reason they chose Apple in the first place - ease of use.

OK, I give up, every attempt I make to help is met with complaint from you so i am officially out of this thread, goodbye and good luck.
You are a sensitive little flower aren't you? 😁
This is an Apple discussions forum about everything Apple. I appreciate your help and indeed have followed your earlier advice regarding setting up compliant passwords etc.
However, having followed that instruction, Apple's auto configuration still appears to have filled in the wrong settings (according to your post). Equally helpfully they have made said configuration uneditable by greying it out.
My point is that surely Apple could correct this wrong to make the configuration work without the need for tinkering - or in my case deleting and reconfiguring the account on three machines for the third time. What's to say something else isn't quite right after I've done it?
I'm sorry you seem to take this criticism personally as it isn't addressed to you, but to Apple. I'm sure there are others experiencing this iCloud issue that would be equally as grateful as I to have it finally sorted completely and simply.
Try following the links in the related thread below. This fixed the issue for me.
I'm having the same problem, but mine is connection to p04-imap.mail.me.com. Already re-did the many steps above, but still no resolution.
So the only way to get apple to pay attention to this is by paying them $45? That can't be, there has to be a support email somewhere...
Key thing is you have to "de-select" the "mail and notes" option in iCloud preferences in System Preferences FIRST before you try to manually add the imap mail settings, otherwise it will ignore all your manual changes and put it back to the p04.. server settings.
I had the same problem and it turned out ot be Caps letter in my user name. After going from MobileMe to iCloud, Mac Mail had my user name like this: Firstname.Lastname. I changed it to firstname.lastname and it worked.
I had the same problem, but found the solution at http://www.techyv.com/questions/icloudmobileme-mail-issue-here-please
"This issue might be due to SSL being unchecked. Ticking SSL can resolve the issue and fix. This can be done by navigating to Preferences >> Accounts >> iCloud >> Advanced. Port should be changed to 993 and SSL box should be checked. Save the settings and restart'.
So I did, and it worked! The incoming mail server is still “p99-imap.mail.me.com" and is still greyed out, but the mail flows freely!🙂😁
