Mine too. it took forever to backup and update my ipod touch 4g to the new ios 5. But everything seems sluggish after that. The touch screen experience seems to be a bit jittery and there are noticeable pauses when loading apps. Is this just my ipod or is ios5 just not up to the mark?

the same thing happened to my ¡pod 4th gen, i just updated to this apperentely grea OS 5 but ever since i did it, my ipod it seems to have a mind of its own: I try to upload new songs and sometimes does not even do it, it says preparing to upgrade ipod and i see that annoying arrow spining then the files are shown in my ipod but they are all greyed out I have to re try over and over again, when i try to edit an album it does not shows the changes and it has become a pain in the butt when before ipod and I were friends. the same old thing happens when i am playing somethin' and try to unlock the opod it takes foreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever to do it and even sometimes my ipod makes this weird sound like when you play a scratched cd, is there a way to go back to the old OS...apple hear this out! are your customers the one telling you!!

Hi Guys, same here... I was using iOS 4.x on my iPod 4g without any problem... since I install 5.x (particularly 5.0.1) my iPod is VERY slugglish... I try reset, restore, etc...

No... no apps in the background...

If I'm listening music and I want to just unlock the iPod the lock screen slider take some times up to 5 seconds to disapear after swap my finger...

Another big issue is the batery life... I know 5.0.1 supouse to fix that... is not my case...

It takes time to pass screens on the dashboard... it take time to leave applications... I usually have 4-5 applications open on the background (that I'm try to keep off...) no games... usually safari, mail, music, and pulse... and if I want to do something more, like play using airplay thru my macbook pro and the apple tv, wow... this is a dead deal for me...

My ipad have the same system and seams to work great... the problem I guess is related to the ipod 4g... (and I don't thing is a hardware problem...)

Apple! we wait several month for this updates... and we pay really big prices for your products... this is because we are expecting you to gives us good things... we even coupe with some of your insane limitation for those top notch devices... please start to the things oriented to us... we are **** because we really believe we are spending a lot of money...

That's what I had to deal with when I bought the white one that comes with iOS 5.0 I updated to 5.0.1 hoping for any improvements and NOTHING. If you call Apple or ask anyone on forums, most will tell you that you need to fresh restore or some **** like that and that NEVER helps. It's Apples fault they never really optimized the memory for the iOS 5 to work on iPod Touch 4th Generation - it just slow as ****. Anyway if you could maybe try selling it and then go on eBay and buy one that still has 4.3.3 or 4.3.5 they still are selling them on there, at least it would work faster. Thats what I did.

I tried ios 5.0.1. It sometimes seems like it is faster but it is very hard to type and its still annoyingly slow. I also noticed that the gyroscope seems to respond kind of slowly. It takes a while to switch from vertical to horizontal and vice verca.

Dec 6, 2011 9:51 AM in response to taizonst

Now that you say it I notice the same with the gyroscope too... sometimes is not even responding and I have to go back to the previous position and try again...

If I'm listening music and I have to slide to unlock, it takes like 5 seconds to access...

and depends of how many and type of apps I have in the background is getting way worst.

I try to keep no apps on the background and things get a little bit faster but what's the point of not being able to use what the system offers? Hope next update fix something...

iPhone users make sound and get listened by Apple... all the media are talking about the phone, but the humble iPod gets lost in this forum...

Hey! If you know a tech blogger: lifehacker, mashable, makeuseof, techcrunch, readwriteweb, cnet.... PLEASE tell him/her to make a note about our issue, because apparently that is the only way Apple will listen to us.

Please, let's keep calling Apple asking politely for a real solution to our issues after "upgrading" to iOS 5:

  • Slow to wake-up
  • Slow to unlock
  • Slow to go to the search area
  • High latency in audio applications
  • etc...

(Hey, does de iPod 1-year warranty cover for these Apple's mistakes?... I want to return my iPod touch 4)

updated to version 5.0 when it was released, my ipod touch 4th gen was very sluggish after the update and battery life fell way off. device is around one year old. then update to ios 5.0.1 with no help in the battery dept and from it running very slow. around 30 apps installed. i have cleared the running applications from the background, tried restoring the device with no help. this is a terrible update to the ipod touch. after searching the web for a evening, i didnt realize what a massive problem this is for the owners of the touch. how long did they alpha and beta test this update? a couple of hours? i have purchased every ipod touch version there was until now. with this kind of release support, its time to move on from the apple family. theres plenty of compitition out there and thats where im going. very frustrated!~

I also have iphone 4s and a Ipad 2 now and the ipod touch is very, very slow in comparison.

Iphone and Ipad are snappy and fast and a pleasure to use, especially for surfing the net.

It takes 2-3 times longer to load pages on the Ipod versa Iphone 4s, so the new processor makes

a huge difference and works will with ios 5 and I do not think that ios 5 should run on

a Ipod touch - this is the last time I installed an update on a Apple device without waiting for

feedback, I do regret it and can not downgrade to 4.0 anymore.
