North Pole Level 1 Level 1

iOS 5 LED Flash Alert not working on iPhone 4.. Updated twice & restored. All other new iOS 5 features working... Pattern Vibrate & all...  But face down, face up, dark room, feature turned on.. No Go... No groovy flashing LED on email, text, or incoming call...

Thoughts anyone..

Cheers Tom

Mine was doing the same thing and i had to do a hard reboot! and now it works!!!

hard reboot- is when  you hold the home button and the power button down until the apple sign appears!!

    Hope this works

    I've try it ---> doesn't work.

  • Frank Malloy Level 2 Level 2

Enabled it and saw it flash once on the first alert. Since then, nothing.

Hard to believe something so simple does not work, even with the very long Beta test period.

    North Pole -

    Try this exactly:

    1. Turn LED Alert off.

    2. Press Home.

    3. Press Power+Home buttons at same time and keep both pressed until the apple logo appears during startup. Letgo.

    4. Go to Settings/General/Accessibility/

    5. Find the LED Alert option that shows its self switched off.

    6. Press and hold on the LED Alert's Off Switch.

    7. DRAG THE SWITCH to the ON position.

    8. If your custom vibrate setting isn't turned off then:

    9. Like #7 DRAG the custom vibe switch to the OFF position.

    10. Press HOME BUTTON.

Now have someone text you or set a one minute alarm to check it.

Two or more of the 10 steps fix the problem. I don't have time to narrow down exactly which ones. I did at one point have the LED Flash Alert and Custom Vibe on and working together, I'm almost positive. So if you get it working and like the custom vibe feature then try turning the vibe back on via dragging (not pressing) the switch.

GL and let me know if it works or not.

Read my above post / reply to your question.

You could try that second and try this first:

    1. Hard Reset iPhone (holding power+home until apple logo)

    2. Settings/General/Accessibility

    3. Turn LED Alert OFF by holding the switch and sliding your finger to the off.

    4. Turn Custom Vibe OFF by holding the switch and sliding your finger to the off.

    5. Turn both LED Alert and Custom Vibe back on by sliding the switches.

Just never press those switches. Always slide them to your desired setting.

Go ahead and test it out by setting a 1 Minute alarm.

    Still not working...  tried both

  • BomberKnocker Level 1 Level 1

Didnt work for me at all after update. Couldnt be bothered messing about so went to bed. Alarm came on this morning and so did the flashing led. Phoned and messaged my iphone and now work everytime. Did nothing but left it alone!

I think it'll only flash when your phones locked.

  • Frank Malloy Level 2 Level 2

For some strange reason, mine seems to have started working - at 5AM. I did try the slide trick, but I am very skeptical of that "fix" - if the switch says ON, it should be registered that way no matter how it got activated (sliding or tapping).

Anyway, I did notice the flash, but I can't be sure it's working consistently.

I can confirm that it did flash only while locked/asleep, and this is noted in the User Manual. It makes sense - if you're using the phone, why flash it, especially when you could have it pointed at someone's eyes?

Well, its now stopped working for me.

Amazing how something so simple can be so flaky...

  • avlnch Level 1 Level 1

Just mess with the settings. Off/on switch.. That's how I got mine working again.

Obviously a glitch that needs to be fixed.

  • Frank Malloy Level 2 Level 2

I messed with the settings last night, which seemed to do the trick...until today, that is, when it stopped working.

This reminds me of that "push email stopped working" fiasco about 3 releases ago.

Apple has such long Beta periods I can't believe something so basic is not thoroughly tested and debugged.

It seems that the LED will only flash for events that have the Alert style set to "Alerts" (the "old" style from pre iOS 5)

Go to Settings -> Notifications -> Messages and set Alert Style to 'Alerts' (3rd one) then retry

Weird. Now it's working again (even with Messages set to using the Banner notifications)....
