Undo iCloud and restore Outlook 2007 on my PC? How?

I enabled iCloud to sync my Outlook 2007 calendar and contacts. My contacts on my PC have now totally disappeared! This is horrible! I need to have them on my PC for the times that my WIFI is down. I also need to have my calendar back on my PC .

I don't want to use iCloud anymore.

How can I stop using iCloud and get Outlook on my PC to have my calender and contacts back?

My operating system on my iPhone is IOS 5 and ma using an iPhopne. The iPhone is my only Apple product.

iPhone 4, IOS 5

Wow - wish I had read these posts before doing the I Could sync! After a few hours I just did a system restore on my PC back to before the I Could implosion and all is good. What a disaster I could is UNLESS you have all Apple - my sister has a MAC Ipad and I phone and it works well. I bought an Iphone to replace my Blackberry Torch so I would be able to synch between my Ipad, I phone and PC. The I phone is going back since if I can't synch all automatically I don't really need an I phone. So much for apple being so much better and easier to use.

Since you stated that you don't blame one more than the other, I MUST clarify. Outlook made no claims about working with iCloud. On the other hand, Apple clearly stated that iCrap (oops I meant iCloud) integrates with outlook. (And they need it too as well, because apple doesn't have a business mail/contacts/calendar program)

Apple knew how Outlook worked and apple dropped the ball, it was their own part of the equation they failed to make integrate seamlessly with Outlook.

Apple how can you do so many things so well and yet fail so colossally on others?

i totally agree that they are ignoring a very large market; PC users with iDevices. it seems clear to me that this is done on purpose, for whatever reason. iCloud, via the control panel on a PC, does integrate with Outlook. it also greatly limits Outlook's funcionality.

i dont really know which way to go. i dont see a Mac in my future. i want cloud service and iDevice syncing, ect....

iCloud works as Apple described, what you want is for Microsoft Outlook to allow th eiCloud account to be the default, and it won't, there will always be 2 and the local (or exchange) account will be the default. You can not remove the local account unless you use MS Exchange to sync.

Adapt to the new way or either stop using Outlook, or stop using iCloud.

@Csound1 what apple need to do is use Outlook's default main Contact folder the same way as they did with MobileMe simple as!

Do you use Outlook for Windows and if you do did you have MobileMe?

No they don't, it is an old and proprietery system it is time Microsoft removed the restrictions from Outlook.

I never used Outlook, it is terrible, try emClient if you want an Outlook alternative that actually works.

"I never used Outlook" enough said!

But I support about 100 users who do, and have been doing so since 1998, that's how i know how bad it is, I have to keep fixing the problems (which are legion)

Good try though.

Well you should know better then, I used MobileMe before iCloud update, MobileMe was no problem at all it just synced the main Outlook Contacts folder with the MobileMe Contacts flawlessly.

Ok you are right in respect you would think Microsoft would allow you to change the default Contacts folder i.e. make "Contacts in iCloud" the default.

Mobile me is not iCloud, and even Mobile Me (after the new calendar 4 or 5 months ago) didn't work properly with Outlook.

It is most unlikely that Microsoft will adopt the regular Internet standards (iMap/CalDav/CardDav) anytime soon. As it is Outlook is just about the only client that does not support these protocols and that is Microsoft's decision.

Unless you use an Exchange account (for which Outlook is the best client you can get) emClient does everything Outlook does, just simpler and better, the fact that it is free is a bonus.

More generally I am not surprised that Outlook is such a great Exchange client and yet so poor with other services (like Zimbra, MM, iCloud) because Exchange is one of MS's cash cows, do you really think they care very much about iCloud? it's not their software.

And you should see Outlook for Mac, it won't support any part of iCloud other than Mail, so Outlook users on Windows are getting a better deal than Outlook Mac users.

Hello people this is my first post..

So i tried this iCloud thing. you all got me scared about the outlook folders and contacts. I'm not sure if i lost any folders in my inbox so i just immediatly imported my backed up PST file back into outlook 2007..

That's not my problem.. My issue is this. Now i have every single email and contact that i have had in my outlook for years in my iPhone 4. This has made it even harder to call someone or try and find something. I already have 282 legit contacts in my phone. That was hard enough. Now I have at least doubled it.

is there anyway to just get ny regulay phone contacts back without every email contact i have ever received, replyed or written to on my phone???

Only my main Contacts folder "Contacts in iCloud" is synced up to the iCloud because I faffed around a lot setting it up, I do have a lot of contact groups in outlook though. When you 1st setup iCloud via the iCloud Control Panel it should of asked you which Contacts folder/groups you want synced.

You could look on the iCloud web to see if you can delet the groups you don't want from the Cloud, not sure what this will do to your Outlook though.

You could start all over again restoring your outlook.pst file, remove the iCloud Control Panel, dlete the contacts on the cloud and turn off contact syncing in iCloud options on your iPhone then install iCloud Controil Panel and see if you get the options to sync outlook groups.
