Undo iCloud and restore Outlook 2007 on my PC? How?

I enabled iCloud to sync my Outlook 2007 calendar and contacts. My contacts on my PC have now totally disappeared! This is horrible! I need to have them on my PC for the times that my WIFI is down. I also need to have my calendar back on my PC .

I don't want to use iCloud anymore.

How can I stop using iCloud and get Outlook on my PC to have my calender and contacts back?

My operating system on my iPhone is IOS 5 and ma using an iPhopne. The iPhone is my only Apple product.

iPhone 4, IOS 5

Hi, What I am doing now is:-

  1. I setup an exchange account for gmail in outlook 2007(can't remember if this is a must?)
  2. installed google calendar sync for windows/outlook:- http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=98563
  3. setup google exchange account on iPhone etc http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77702
  4. for contacts I sync my outlook contacts via iTunes.
  5. I have an iPad as well so I use icloud to sync my contacts between iPhone, iPad, MBP and iCloud, just remember not to enable calendar option in iCloud setup.

Its a shame because contacts synced ok with mobileme, calendars didn't sync properly in mobileme as well.

Nick

I have just noticed adding or amending contacts on my iPhone or iPad the changes or additions don't appear in my Outlook 2007 contacts, obviously because I am using iCloud to sync my contacts between iPad and iPhone it now only allows 1 way syncing in iTunes, only amendments and addition in Outlook 2007 get pushed to iPad and iPhone not the other way. I've got to have consistent syncing my contacts between all devices so I now have disabled iCloud contact syncing totally on all devices (which enables both way syncing contacts in iTunes). All syncing contacts is now done via iTunes.

Now I'm stuck syncing my Macbook Pro Contacts ???

Whats a nightmare ! 😠

Solution!

First go to outlook, contacts and where you see the iCloud contacts file right click and copy to outlook contacts,

then sign out of iCloud and "Keep Copy" of contacts when it asks you to.

Then Close Outlook, re-open and take a look at contacts and then see if your categories have re-appeared, if they have then you are good to go. Remeber to only syncronize contacts with wi-fi sync as iCloud has no clue what to do.

@NickRno77.

I tried as you suggested but it didnt help. 😠

I have got to a point were I didnt care if I lost some of the information, so I knew that I was doubled up on all of my tasks. So i deleted them all.

I got my outlook back, I got my outlook back 🙂

I will see how this goes over the next few days/weeks. But it appears I have fixed the problem by deleting all the tasks.

Hope this might help some other people 🙂

I think i've figured it out. I have had the same problem as everybody here. If you click on the Navigation Pane on the left of Outlook you get a little pop out menu and you can check to have it display iCloud calendar/contact. It will then show up in your outlook as it had before, plus if you add a calendar appointment then it will sync to iCloud (you need to install the iCloud Control Panel) and then to your iphone/pad (and vice versa).

I'm by no means an expert but it seemed to work for me

Um....I have a problem. I did the sign out, followed the prompts and told it to put everything back it seemed to do it, but now I have no contacts in Outlook!!! I somehow still have an iCloud calendar, but no iCloud option/choice for my contacts, and my normal Contacts folder is blank!!!

All my contacts are still on my iphone and ipad...how do I get them back to my computer?

I tried signing back into iCloud, then telling it to Refresh iCloud in OUtlook, but no contacts...

If you want to restore your previous outlook data file typically called outlook.pst, close outlook > find outlook.pst > right click on file > properties > previous versions tab > then restore previous outlook.pst file previous to when you tried to use iCloud.

make a copy of the outlook.pst file just in case before you do above.

I have reverted back as well, worked great with mobileme but iCloud is terrible for contacts and calendar. I use google Calendar Sync for Calendars between Outlook, iPhone, iPad. Works great. Not sure how I'm going to tackle iCloud yet? I'm just using iTunes to sync outlook to my iPhone and iPad.

You can do what I suggested above but aparaently uninstalling iCloud Control Panel should put your contacts back to how they were? I can't be sure of that though. I've submitted to icloud now and sync my contacts through iCloud which I didn't want to do the way iCloud method, anyway this is all a massive can of worms lol. BTW if you want to sync your calendar items I have found the best way to do this accross platforms is to use Google Calendar Sync.

When I lost my contacts from Outlook and uninstalled the iCloud control panel, I was left with no contacts in outlook, just on the phone and all I did was an iTunes sync and it copied all the contacts from the phone over to outlook. I may try iCloud again sometime but I think I'll' wait a bit to see if Apple can fix the bugs. Meanwheel Ive gone back to manual syncs with iTunes.

Does anyone know if Apple provides phone support for iCloud on Windows I'm guessing not and that if they do, its costly.

Since people keep mentioning Google sync, does anyone know if Android phones have a better handle on this cloud sync thing? Just planning ahead for my next phone....

I downloaded and enabled icloud syncs from my Iphone to my Windows PC using my outlook 2007 contacts from my personal folder. It went fine but it deleted contacts in my personal folder in outlook and created an Icloud contact group. I didn't mind that too much except that it should warn you that your contact folder in the Personal folder will be deleted.....

THIS IS THE BIG PROBLEM. I use Skype to make scores of calls per day and skype was set up to load my Outlook personal contacts so I can dial from skype. Skype will not load the Icloud group of contacts and use it. Since Icloud setup deleted my personal folder contacts I HAD NO CONTACTS IN SKYPE.

Well, that was totally not good and really made me mad that such a blunder could be done by Apple. So I had to get rid of Icloud (Control Panel>Network and Internet>Icloud) and then restore my original contacts in Personal Folder.... BUT, no way to restore that except going to my backup system and restoring the pst file from the last backup (5 days ago) for the file (located on the backup drive for C:/users/user/local/microsoft/outlook/Outlook.pst). Using Outlook 2007 file>import and export> and latching onto the resored pst from my backup and then restoring "Personal Folders>Contacts".

Then I had to delete the Icloud group in outlook........ A whole bunch of steps to remove it and revert back to "NO ICLOUD" so I could use other applications like skype that sync to contacts. Usually Apple is pretty good about making applications that are error free and non problematic but this ICLOUD application needs a lot of work. DON'T TRY IT UNLESS YOU BACKUP AND KNOW HOW TO REVERT BECAUSE YOU MAY HAVE UNFORSEEN PROBLEMS. Wait till they get the kinks worked out.

Undo iCloud and restore Outlook 2007 on my PC? How?
