After the 10.5 update and the iOS5 update on my iPhone my ringtones won't sync! Anyone else have this issue?

I did the same upgrades as most above. I can get 3 or 4 ringtones to sync sometimes and only 2 other times. I only have 6 ringtones that I want on the phone. All of them I purchased. Now they want me to purchase them again, which I will not do. What is the point of upgrading when it just casues problem. Apple used to test their new software before releasing it. Now things seem to be falling apart on more levels that this one issue. I paid my money and I want this problem fixed.

No one except dsernart gets the problem we are having going from Mac iTunes 10.7 to iPhone 5. It seems fairly straight forward to select a tune, shorten it to 30 sec, save it in Finder or Desktop as an .m4r file, delete it from the Music library and then drop it in the Tones folder in the sidebar (I had to go into Preferences and check Tones). I then connected my phone to the computer and dragged the .m4r file (that played when I clicked it in Tones) into Tones on my device. It shows up in the Tones folder all by itself and plays (through the iMac). However, I can't find it on my iPhone! It isn't in the Sounds. What's with this? Why does this seem so simple yet not work? Is it an iOS 6 thing? Anyone?

I had trouble synching everythign. I realized though, that you can't just click the "synch" button at the bottom right. You have to select each category that you want to synch from the folder tabs above. For instance, music, tones, books, etc. Then, after you click a folder tab, there are boxes to check like: all songs, only checked songs, etc. This might not be news to you but it was news to me. Now everything has synched.

Hope this helps you. It took me about 20 minutes to get this working.
1. First, find your iTunes Library on your Macintosh HD. It is located in Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Tones.

2. Then copy your ringtone with the ".M4r" extension into that folder directly.

3. Open iTunes. Under your iphone icon, go to "Tones". Click on that folder.

4. Drag the ringtone from step 2 into the "Tones" folder in step 3.

5. Sync your iphone to your computer and the ringtone shold show up on a separate list above the ringtones that came with the iphone.

Hope you have better luck now.

Well, my ringtones are on the phone, synced, and in my Tones folder in iTunes - went from 3g to iPhone 5.

I can see, and can assign a custom ringtone - .M4r -, apply/save, done. The ringtones play both in iTunes and the iPhone, but not when the assigned phone calls. Change back to default for the specific tone, and the default tone rings.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I only have two numbers, each assigned with a different ringtone.

Unfortunately, I've done as suggested.. multiple times - as far as assigning, and re booting the phone, no joy.

What is interesting is that neither number played the assigned ringtone, both .M4r, until late this afternoon when I get a call from one of the assigned numbers with the correct ringtone. Go figure.

Thanks again.

This is what worked for me. When I upgraded to new iPhone 5 this weekend, my old ringtones were missing on the new phone. When I then used iTunes to put them on my new phone (using Synchronize All under the Tones tab for my connected iPhone), they appeared as ringtones on the new phone, and the one I had previously used was checked. However that is not the ringtone the phone used. It stuck with the default ringtone (Marimba).

After reading a number of the complicated solultions suggested by members of the Apple support community, I came across your idea of simply unchecking my custom ringtone, selecting the Marimba ringtone, then re-selecting my custom ringtone. It worked like a charm. Problem solved!

Thanks Pam!

Had the same problem. Didn't read through all the pages of posts to see if this was suggested but here is what I did that worked. If you have your phone/device selected in the menu pane of iTunes and you choose Tones in the device menu, you can check and uncheck the tones you want all day and they won't sync to your device. You have to select "Tones" under "Library in the menu pane. Make sure they are checked in THAT list. Then select your device again, go to tones and check the ones you want. I hope this helps someone.

the reason for this is the tricky style of this itunes, i consider it a suibility issue, any ways :

you need to understand that the tones you got in the itunes tones section are inside the library not inside the iphone, so first of all press on the iphone button follow the photo:

User uploaded file

then you followiing will show up:

User uploaded file

now simply select tones and check the tones you want and press sync.

i hope this will solve the proplem for everyone.
