iphone 4+iOS 5: volume issue when using bluetooth carkit (VW passat '11)

hi

i searched all over the net and i didnt find any record of my problem.

i got the iphone 4. it used to run 4.3.3 it worked perfectly. even with my newly VW passat with the RSN310

since i installed ios 5 i found improvements(display wise) but a few downsiders (very annoying ones)

whenever my phone connects with my car, my ringer sound & music sound goes flatlined. (all the way down to nearly mute)
settings > sounds

&

music (airplay)

now if i want to stream my music trough the speakers i dont hear anything unless i raise the volume to MAX and its like a mouse sound. (barely hearable)

(to stream music, i just press MEDIA on my car dash board)

in order to correctly play and hear incomming calls i have to do the following:

wait for phone to connect, then go settings > sounds, raise ringer volume (for incomming calls), then go to music, raise the volume and only THEN i may press Media on my car dashboard to play music & hear incomming calls.

quite some process compared to what used to work fine 3 days ago (even taking into considerations that my RSN 310 didnt display the song info back then, but with ios5 is gives me artis, albmum & song tittle.)

I have also had the issue of lowered ringer volume after disconnecting both my work iPhone (3GS) and personal iPhone (iPhone4), both with iOS 5.0.1, from my new VW Passat 2012 (mark vii) RNS315 MDI's Bluetooth interface. This is a company car and I have missed a number of business calls due to this issue.

To resolve it I have reported the issue to Apple via the apple feedback online form and also contacted VW who booked the car in, ran diagnostics and sent a report to VW UK and German Technical offices. VW UK have confirmed that it is an Apple issue but have told me that they will not take it up with Apple. I pointed out that this may be to their detriment as they will continue to have disgruntled customers who will tell prospective customers of the issue. I then raised a complaint with VW which I'm awaiting feedback on.

So, I'd advise putting pressure on Apple to get the iOS 5.1 update out if that solves the problem (as per previous response from beta tester) and logging a complaint with VW to push them toward pressuring Apple.

Me too - But it's not the only 5.1 problem I get.. The car works ok (2011 Passatt CC) but often I need to switch off BT on the phone then switch it back on and then reconnect to the car. All works fine then apart from the track timings (which I can live with) and of course the volume zeroing, which I hate because if I forget to turn it back up again I miss calls...

I also have 5.1 problems on iPOD Touch and on Ipad - freezing apps and crashing apps.... It is rather confusing because the amount of app fixes seems to be increasing.

They really need to sort stuff out.....

It is frustrating - these issues relate to iOS version 5.0 and 5.0.1 (the current version released to the public) when used with an iPhone 4 or 4S. My old 3GS has iOS 5.0.1 and doesn't seem to have this problem. Registered Apple developers can have iOS 5.1 beta release and one of them who also has a VW with bluetooth has told me that 5.1 fixes these problems, and I believe this has been mentioned on some of the Apple support forums by other registered apple developers. Not sure when iOS 5.1 is due for release to the public, I suspect that may be contingent on the launch of the a new version of the iPad, rumour has it there is due to be an announcement about that in early March. The sooner the better in my opinion, these bluetooth glitches are getting on my nerves.

Not sure I have those experience - I have 3GS and since the software upgrade it is much slower, seemingly less stable and the battery life is notably shorter..

Also I have a Senheisser earpiece that falls out with the phone on a regular basis - it never did this prior to the software upgrade..

Problem I have is that the Apple products are so bloody expensive yet move so fast, we cannot all afford to upgrade hardware at the rate at which we seem to need to.. My IPAD was essentially obsolete at less than three months old.

This for me is something that Apple can do lots about. If my hardware has a lifespan that far exceeds that of the software then Apple need to build this into their strategy - or at least come up with a competitive part exchange programme.

Sorry for the random digression but despite Apple's invincible marketing strategy - they sometimes don't seem to respect their customers enough.

Not so while I agree ringer volume and volume keys working fine now but still have to turn off Bluetooth and on again to get it to connect this is after update iOS 5.1 done a full reset day before update installed update last night and deleted pairing from both car and phone repaired went fine but got out car and after returning only after 5 mins started car and there you go won't connect automatically had to manually do it but all not lost next time I left and entered car it connected yeah I thought but usual school run this morning and there you go had to manually connect by turning off Bluetooth and turn it on again but hey it will not be the update it will be car system wich is made for iPhone 4 so not buying that answer so come on apple sort it out instead of passing the buck
