Why does my Me mail account keep asking for password?

Changing the MM password won't do anything, MM doesn't exist.

No, I'm on Maverick, this all started when I 'upgraded'.

I'm well aware of Mobile Me going nowhere, I had to move websites because of them pulling that one. But I was getting desperate so would have changed my eBay settings in keychain if I'd thought that would have remotely done anything!!

Then how did you access MM, there is no MM preference pane in Mavericks, where did you change the MM password?

Utilities>Keychain>Login

And did the iCloud option there too.

If you go look in amongst all the different passwords, eBay, Wordpress etc you can see a tiny little MobileMe logo, probably quite far down the list dependant on how often you change your passwords or make new ones for new sites/applications.

Anyway opened it up, and changed the password in there and saved it.

As I said, I'd have changed anything in there that was remotely related, just in case. I'm not suggesting for one minute it was changing that password that made the difference, I changed a few on both the iCloud lines and login lines.

Ah, I see.

Delete it, it is useless now.

I'm still hoping they bring back MobileMe!!

so I've been using a non-existent entity for the past 6 months? if MobileMe is gone, how have I been using it? now it's asking for a password, and isn't recognizing anything I type into the password gump. this is for a me.com email address, and as I've said I've been using it for months. if it doesn't exist, I can't have been using it, and if I'm using it it must exist.

all I want is to be able to reset the password for an email address I've been using for months. don't tell me "it doesn't exist." that's patently not true. can someone just point me in the direction of an answer to how I can retrieve or reset the password for it? it worked just fine 2 hours ago.

I am not by your side, so unless you want to tell me what you see how can I know.

Take a screenshot of whatever it is that makes you think you have been using MM after it shut down and I'll make a try.

I am having the same problem. Totally annoying. Does anyone have a current solution? I am finding only old posts in response to similar problems.

You have a dead mail account called Mobile Me, you neglected to remove it when MM closed.

Open Internet Accounts (in System Preferences) and show me the MM account, what you see in Mail is just a label.

Then open Mail>Preferences>Accounts and show me the servers in use for the account labelled 'Mobile Me'

that, and snarky responses such as I received above. "what you think you have been using." yep. it says "MobileMe." that's pretty much why I think I'm using MobileMe. because it's telling me that's what I'm using. there's just no reason I would invent a name for something that stopped existing before I began using it, and I certainly wouldn't be calling it "MobileMe." I think "bengalpuss" would be more like something I would make up.
